1  The Dress Experiment in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Awesome Monkey on: May 30, 2010 12:35:07 PM
So for school, our senior project was to research something. We could basically do anything, but it just had to be something we were interested in because it was the majority of what we did for the second semester of AP Comp. So i chose to try to design, make the pattern, and sew my own dress.  Here's what i came up with:

I really liked making my own pattern, it fits me so perfectly Smiley it has boning in it too. here's the bodice part:

And i just took the rest of my material and folded it lengthwise, gathered it, and did a pick up skirt.

And here's the top and bottom, before i sewed them together:

and the finished product:

and sorry the photos aren't great quality, they're from my cell phone because i didn't think to take pictures with my camera for some reason.
so what do you guys think? This is my first attempt at pattern drafting. i just read a book about it and it turned out to be really fun. I kinda wanna wear it to something now Smiley
comments and criticism would be appreciated =)

2  Help Please? I'm going to try to sew my prom dress... in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by Awesome Monkey on: January 17, 2010 10:56:26 AM
Okay, so i'm feeling ambitious. i've sewn for quite a while, but i've never sewn a dress before. So i found a picture of what i think is the PERFECT prom dress, but its $358 and i dont have that kind of money to spend on it.  I'd also like to make it a royal blue color instead of red.
so here's what the dress looks like:

i know i probably wont be able to make a dress exactly like it, but i really like the top part so much.  i want to start early so i have plenty of time to make it perfect. so do you guys have any ideas how to go about it or any patterns i could use or alter a bit to make something like this dress?

i bought the fabric for 3 dollars in the remnant rack at joanns, so i didnt really know if there was going to be enough (since it wasnt even a whole yard), but it worked!
here they are:

the zipper fly!!

belt loops Smiley

i put a different material for the inside of the pocket..i always like surprises...

close up of a back pocket and dart

4  my first attempt at shorts =] in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Awesome Monkey on: March 27, 2008 10:26:35 AM
ok so these are my new pj shorts...i used some old flannel material that i got off the remnant rack at joanns for 1.50 because i didn't really know how they were going to turn out and i kinda used the pattern from fitzpatterns for the stubbies, but i thought they were too high on my waist so i chopped off the top 4 inches. i also gave it a closed button fly to make them look like girls boxers

here they are!

and close up of the pocket

me wearing them

i really liked how they came out, i think i am going to make some board shorts soon.
let me know what you think =]

5  yay! my first post! three purses! (lots of pictures) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Awesome Monkey on: March 27, 2008 10:13:15 AM
wow i used a lot of exclamation points there...oh well, i am pretty excited. So i was a little nervous about my first post showing my creations because i just like to look around this site for ideas, but i don't think my stuff is as great as the amazing things other people post, but nonetheless, i am posting

i made this one using the tinafish tutorial https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=35575.0 for a slouchy hobo bag, but i made it deeper (actually that was on accident but i liked how it turned out). it was a denim fabric with cherries on it that i got from the remnants rack at joanns for 64 cents a few years ago, i thought it was a great deal =]

close up of the hurley patch i sewed on and the cherries on fabric

this is my new guitar bag that i made using mewyam's tutorial https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=210511.0. mine came out way too small but it fits my wallet and phone and stuff, so i like using it. i made a lot of mistakes on it but i made it from some old capris, pants, karate gi, and purse that i saved from the yard sale stuff in the garage so it cost nothing to make =]

it also has a really cool zippered pocket inside that i forgot to take a picture of...

and last but not least my new gusset bag from this tutorial https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=95787.0...which was very frustrating to make because my sewing machine wouldn't cooperate, but i like the outcome. next time i think i will use some thicker interfacing because it doesn't hold its shape too well...

sorry for the many pictures but i was pretty proud of these three bags...let me know what you think. i'll appreciate some constructive criticism too.
