21  Owl-y goodness Kindle cover in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by tankrgrl on: December 02, 2010 08:08:09 PM
For our 9th anniversary my hubby surprised me with a 3G-wi-fi Kindle- blew me away! So I made a cover for it because I couldn't bring myself to pay for the covers. The outside is corduroy and the inside is flannel- it's padded with fleece and has a velcro closure. I am thinking of adding two buttons on the velcro tab, I can't decide though.

22  Young Boba Fett and Jaina Solo in Halloween Costumes by tankrgrl on: November 07, 2010 06:07:00 PM
I ended up making three costumes this year- but I am only showing these 2 because they look the best- it was...hectic...getting everyone ready this year. Next year I have decided I'm not costuming 7 people- or hoping they'll maintain their costumes.

I was supposed to get these started in the beginning of October, but a family emergency pulled us away from home for over two weeks and when we got home I had about 10 days to get them finished.

My son wanted to be Boba Fett from the Clone Wars cartoon, so I ordered him a flight suit in xtra small- he's a tiny kid and it was much TOO small so he ended up wearing the one I had ordered for his sister- since that was too small for her. I made the cape, his belt, holsters, pouches and modified his blaster from a dollar store neon green toy gun. For his blaster I used some parts from lowes- some clamps and a pipe fitting, black spray paint and cut up 3 plastic straws. His belt is made from brown naugahyde and velcro, pouches and hoslster from the same material. His cape is olive green fleece and I cut an opening big enough for his head and sewed it down to keep it from stretching. The knee pads are souble thickness white naugahyde and velcro. They wrap around his knees and a piece of velcro on his flightsuit and the knee pad keep it in place.
Young Boba Fett:

The helmet he got at target- but it was pretty heavy so it rode in the wagon with our baby ewok. Smiley

Jaina Solo is the daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo- she is a pilot and a jedi- and since my daughter didn't want me doing Leia buns like I did last year she chose this costume- because Jaina's hair is just like hers.
Her flightsuit didn't fit and we didn't have enough time to order a replacement- so we hit target for the black skinny pants and a black long sleeve shirt. She got the boots for her birthday. Her costume was fairly simple, the belt is all I really had to make for it. It's made from brown, gray and black naugahyde. Her blaster was also a dollar store repurpose. I used a pipe fitting epoxied to the end to make it more "Star Wars" and use a hot knife to cut off a trigger guard and extra handle, then I spray painted it black. She was pretty happy with the result.

23  I cannot figure out what this is! in Costumes: Discussion and Questions by tankrgrl on: September 13, 2010 05:42:23 PM
So this is the costume I am making for Halloween. I cannot for the life of me figure out what to use for the top. Some type or ribbed material, but on denverfabric, hancock fabric, joann- and the like a search for ribbed fabric doesn't narrow it down. Is it a technique or a fabric that I don't know the name for??

Once I figure out the fabric I am good, the cloak I am just going to use a crushed velvet for, its for trick or treating with my kids (and possibly a parade) so movie accuracy isn't necessary- not that that stops me from trying LOL. If I have to a plain black long sleeve shirt will work.

Here is Faith's stuff- she was thrilled!

She LOVED the Ahsoka bracelets, earrings, necklace and barrettes. Now she is trying to figure out where to put her jewelry box (after school of course.)

She also loves the growing candies. You pegged her tastes exactly Smiley no idea why but she is fascinated with those growing things. She is trying to decide what to make with her sparkly stickers too, I am sure by Friday she will have an idea. Thanks Indie!!

WHEW! After our 3rd 9 hour day in a car we are finally home!  Over 3000 miles we covered, just to come home and get up for school this morning. The kids were ecstatic to see their packages, it made the morning much smoother.
Deklan, Caleb was SOOOO thrille dwith his package, he loved everything.

His favorite was definitely Ferb- he actually squealed when he saw him Smiley He was so impressed with the button wall hanging too, now he wants me to teach him to sew buttons, we will probably hang it on the wall next to his bed. Faith loved her bracelet as well. Thanks so much for an awesome package.

So amazing- we got our package today and NH822 spoiled my young jedi Smiley  They were so thrilled.  I also received the coolest calendar I have ever seen.  My husbands first reaction was " Hey!  That's me on that calendar!!"  He was impressed.

Each page features different pictures of us in our Halloween costumes!!!  There are also a couple of extra iron ons in case the kids need more Star Wars clothing Cheesy  Love the calendar!  Where did you find that awesome paper??

Next up is my Skyguy- he loved that you addressed the package to him that way

He got an Anakin Tshirt, a lego Darth Vader bag, a (hand emroidered I believe) skyguy hat, and an awesome sticker book, he loves sticker books!!

My snips got:

She got a hooded Ahsoka shirt and shorts, which you can't see because she wouldn't stop trying to pose for the camera...but the shorts are grey and have Ahsoka on them as well, she LOVES them.  She got a jedi training academy bag and alight up necklace, which she thinks is just amazing.

They love their stuff, it's seriously amazing, thank you so much...oh and I almost forgot this guy:

A Watto cup!!  and there were two keychains, but one mysteriously has already made it onto hubby's keys Smiley

Bag close up:

Forgot to add one other item!!

She made these cool collages for the kiddos too.

Here is the rest of the stuff mini-me received from FaeDaeBelle (and a close up of the jewelry since it wasn't clearly seen in the other pics)
This is her D.A. Guide to accompany the wand, she also now has all of the spells/charms used in Harry Potter.  (My mini me hasn't been allowed to watch Twilight Saga, though she knows she is missing out on vampires and werewolves, so Fae made her HP stuff instead)

...and the closeup of the jewelry, sorry its a little blurry:

an awesome bracelet, Roaslie inspired necklace and a pair of earrings.

Shocked We took the kids to the beach this am and guess what was sitting on my doorstep when I got back?!  Now I just need the mailman to come back and deliver the envelope that goes with it Smiley

Here is what FaeDaeBelle sent me, so cool I have never gotten glass items in a swap before- and they were totally intact!

as we unwrapped it all...

half of it all laid out

The other half laid out

A handpainted frame with a Be Safe mirror...I love it!  I just need to figure out where to hang it...

mini me modeling the apron (I think one of the recipes I sent has this very reference in it lol)

mini-mi with her wand (I am so mean I made her wait until I opened everything before giving her the wand, lol...now she is stalking the mail man from her bedroom window waiting for the envelope, a future craftster in the making)

Wait for it...

halfway there...

awww, edward under his cloud cover and Bella enjoying the sunshine! His-N-Hers pillowcases (the husband raised an eyebrow, but I make the bed)

One last thing...

an etched Eclipse glass!  So cool Smiley

Included in the package were also extra craft supplies, 2 New Moon tshirts, Fire & Ice sweethearts and a great note from Carlisle!  I also got a hand drawn picture from the little Victoria in Fae's house, it is now hanging with my kids artwork Smiley
Thanks so much FaeDaeBelle, this was an awesome swap package!
