1  Re: Coffee me Up round 2 gallery! in The Swap Gallery by tankrgrl on: March 11, 2013 10:56:38 AM
Here are the awesome things I received from jl409, I sent her package after having to make a quick substitution since my lab was having a tantrum over our move...so I am remaking it and might have to send a doggie apology!

Group Shot

I got 2 coffees, a wonder woman mug, a yoda coffee cozy, a place mat, and an embroidered dishtowel. She also sent some homemade granola and a little notepad.

I am thinking of framing the mat and towel, they are just too cute!

Thanks for a great swap!!

We made a pot of the San Antonio blend right away- it was soo good! My kids have devoured the granola, they loved it!

2  Argon Tano, Jedi, little brother to Ahsoka Tano in Halloween Costumes by tankrgrl on: November 02, 2012 12:19:25 AM

This is my son. Every year since he was 2 and my daughter was 5 I have made their costumes. My son this year wanted to be a Togruta Jedi. So, being a can-do girl, I jumped in with NO idea on how I was going to create the Togruta head for his costume. I did seek out the advice of jennieingram because she is much more skilled with costumes. She gave me some great advice and I was going to order fosshape and make this awesome headpiece. The best laid plans...living in Alaska and not being able to find anyone who sells fosshape and learning that it would cost me twice as much for shipping, I opted to go another route.

I used several yards of muslin and paper to create a pattern for basically a really puffy hat for his head. No matter what I tried, it kept falling off! I took another piece of Jennie's advice and built the headpiece on an old hat my husband had. (Well, it wasn't old, but it was sitting unused in the garage until I cut the bill off of it, then all of a sudden it was a treasured item)

Anyway, I put together the top two horns/montrals and the front lekku, then stuffed them and set them aside. I made the back lekku and stuffed it, then sewed it by hand to the hat, followed by handsewing the front piece. I left a gap to add more stuffing and got the shape right then closed the gap. It worked well, but it would slide off his head just a little because he is a 6 yr old boy- and he has to swing lightsabers and use his taekwondo skills while in costume! I added a small blue band in the front that keeps his headpiece on no matter what move he is doing. I painted it with fabric paint, made the teeth from thick fun foam and paint, then made the silka beads and hand sewed them on.

I made his inner and outer tunic from jersey knit (not Jedi authentic, but we live in AK and trick or treat when it is 20 degrees out and wear thermals under our costumes) as well as his tabard and obi. The belt is leather, it ties in the back and has a band on the back to cover the ties. His lightsaber I made from $19 of plumbing parts from the hardware store. His pants are just kids dockers and the boots are covered with strips of jersey fabric to hide the woodland camo pattern. He decided through this process that he wanted to be Ahsoka tano's little brother, so we scoured the internet looking for good Togruta names and chose Argon Tano. He's a Jedi Padawan and he really loved Halloween this year!

Thanks for looking!!

Aw man! That mailman did a number on your cookies! They looked like little owl faces when I sent them. Sad The cashews were the beaks and they were so cute! I'll try to find the pic I took and upload it. I saw them on Pinterest and they were really easy to make- super tasty too!

This is what they originally looked like.
I am so glad you liked everything!! I loved making it and the owl bag is definitely one of my favorites! Smiley

I received my amazing package from jillybeans yesterday and I am just getting pictures up- my 9 yr old had a sleepover for her birthday, but there was much ohhhing and ahhhing over the goodies I got. My house was Hufflepuff, shop- Quality Quidditch Supplies, class- charms

The whole package (I now feel bad that I was time crunched and didn't wrap mine as nicely jillybeans! Thank you so much for the extra touch!!)

2 amazing stenciled Holyhead Harpies shirts...My daughter actually shrieked with excitement and was explaining how that's her favorite Quidditch team..it was cute. We wore them all night!

mulling spices and cherry amaretto preserves, I am about to make an english muffin...this will be on it. I am excited to try the mulling spices, it's been on my to do list forever.

these awesome loom made bracelets- which I have been wearing since I took them out of the beautiful box she decorated. YAY HUFFLEPUFF

awesome journal and a feather for me to practice wingardium levioso (have to work on that pronunciation!)

two quills and a bookmark (My son was at a friend's house and when my friend dropped him off here I had to jot down a phone number and grabbed the quill, she just started laughing and said "Of course you write with a quill! Did you just dip that in an ink pot?!" I love it, thank you!)

This extra- I knew exactly what it was as soon as I saw the mermaid- I think this will go by my bed for me to put my rings in at night, it's so awesome and the painting is really detailed.

Then, there was a wrapped item at the bottom of the box...and inside was this....amazing bag!!!

with a cute keychain representing the charms and spells!!

WOW! My very own Teesha Moore Harry Potter bag based on charms, etc. I was totally blown away and I absolutely love it! Faith said "Mom, do I get one of those?!" Ha! In your dreams kiddo! Smiley (I might teach her a few stitches and let her make her own though.)

Everything had these beautiful tags

and there was a hand drawn snitch on the front of the box- I feel very spoiled and so very glad to have had such a great swap partner! Thank you so much jillybeans!!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: House Pride
Project Name: Early Admission Hufflepuff
Brief Description:This is a house robe I made for my now 6 year old, his birthday was August 15 and he has been wanting a Hufflepuff robe, and a wand, and a scarf for a long time. I found him a great wand on etsy, and once I found the wand I knew it was time to finish his scarf and crank out a robe. This is a very simple robe, the hood is long and pointed and it is half lined with the house color. It is flannel- my go to fabric for robes for kids.

Hood up

House Pride (will it count for Sorting Hat as well?)
Hufflepuff Scarf
This scarf was cast on back in December 2011, I finished one black and one yellow stripe and it sat while I moved on to other projects, etc. Then about 7 days before Caleb's birthday I got the gumption to finish it. Knit in the round with sz13 needles, using lion brand wool ease yarn.

The scarf

The Happy Hufflepuff with Helga the badger

I really hope I posted it right!! Smiley I have another project I have to find the pictures for that I completed for the OTHPT swap...I am just really late in posting. It has been a crazy summer.

I received from whenindoubtsew today, and it is awesome.
She sent me Eeylops Owlery, it had an unfortunate shrinking accident, which is fortunate for me!

Everything all together

Trinkets, owl ring, 2 prs earrings, felt badge, and a Hufflepuff bracelet, there was much huffing and puffing from an 8yo who thinks she can claim these when I am not looking.

Closeup of the felt badge (in my favorite colors)

Oh look- they've left the lights on in the emporium!!

I think the blue owl is in cahoots with the nargles, he seems to have on Miss Lovegood's spectrespecs! There is plenty of counter space, I am sure before opening term at Hogwarts these counters are full of little owls in cages.

There's more! Check out the sides of the emporium! Someone's been tagging...

They've also plastered those dreadful wanted posters...such dark times...

The walls of the emporium are textured, so they look like stucco, it's such a cool OTHPT, thank you so much!! I need to go find a shelf...mischevious youngins are about!!  Grin

I received my package from chughes225 today!! Oh she spoiled me and my kiddos!!

Here is the full package

The gorgeous water colors of three of my favorite characters, so going on my wall after I finish typing this up!
They turned out so great!!

Giant Darth Vader lightsaber pillow/toy for my son, he loves it! I will try to get an action shot after tae kwon do Smiley He was so pathetic too when he saw it, he stared at it and said mommy how come you got that? I want one! Priceless face when I told him it was his.

An Ahsoka necklace- very cool! Darth Vader wrap bracelet and lightsaber earrings- I will have to keep an eye on all three, my daughter was eyeballing them!

lightsaber candy extras- I think we will also reuse the containers to hold DS pens...they seem to disappear rather quickly.

A Camp Half Blood shirt for my daughter- her eyes totally bugged out when she saw this, she got to meet Rick Riordan last weekend and saw all these kids with CHB shirts and kept saying man, I wish you had made me one of these, can you make one when we get home? She loves it, has declared she is wearing it when we fly to Maryland next week.

Finally...a piece that is fashionable and functional...especially with this long flight in front of me...

A star Wars kindle cover!!! I love it! I love that it stands on it's own so I can read it hands free- perfect for when I knit and want to read, or on the long flight- what have you, it is perfect.

You spoiled us rotten!! I am almost done with your package and I hope you like it as much as I like this one!
Thank you!!!!

8  Re: Monster Pouch Swap GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by tankrgrl on: March 23, 2012 09:35:39 PM
Prepare to be jealous! I got my awesome package of monster goodness from LaChapa right as I was leaving to go see The Hunger Games. I love my monsters!!

The large one fits my art/visual journal, watercolor pencils, sharpener, brush pen, and a host of other odds and ends- his button eyes are the closure and he is patchwork!! The little guy is holding on to my earbuds for now, but I imagine  I will use him to carry my ID and cash this summer when I go to camp for a week with my daughter and her AHG troop. The extras she sent- an Empire Strikes Back bookmark- because I am a Star Wars nerd!! Super cute magnetic monsters, I plan on using one in my journal, the others will be used all over, I usually am in the middle of several books.
LaChapa I bow to your crochet perfection once again! I love my monsters, thank you so much!!!

Another shot- after they've "eaten" my journal and earbuds

10  Re: Coffee Me Up Gallery in The Swap Gallery by tankrgrl on: March 02, 2012 06:21:05 PM
Grin WOW! I feel so spoiled! I received from our wonderful organizer sweetyetevil today and man, when I opened it, it was like heaven! I love the smell of coffee in the morning...well, anytime really!

The group shot

The coffee- DUNKIN DONUTS!!! We don't have any here, it's like a piece of home! She also sent local coffee roasted by Henriettahaus Coffee Roasters- it smells soo good! I am probably making that, I am trying to wait for the hubs to get home but it might not happen. I already devoured one of the chocolates, caramel latte filling- wow it was good!

Hazelnut coffee syrup, a book of coffee recipes and- I have a better picture...

...a "Given enough coffee I could rule the world" necklace! One of my favorite sayings Smiley

Some hand made soap she made that I am really excited for! It smells amazing, chocolate coffee...Let's hope the moose don't smell me tomorrow and think I am food at the Iditarod lol. There's also a pin she got from the coffee roasters, it says coffee fiend. Ne'er a truer word was spoke!

This awesome coffee and cupcake hoopla! It is so well done, I love it.

This coffee themed mug rug, with awesome batik fabric, I can't wait to use it. I might have to bake muffins now.

Wait- there's more...

not one but 2 coffee cups!! I have a thing for owls, so does my daughter, its a good thing my name is on the cup, because she already tried swiping it.
The other side looks like this...

That owl is seriously what I look like when I roll out of bed to work out- before my coffee!

Thank you so much sweetyetevil!!! I feel totally spoiled and I love it all!!!
