1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / I need a shirt, suggestions? on: August 08, 2008 08:31:29 PM
next Friday i am going to warped tour(its an all day out door festival concert). I'm ready and willing to do a recon, maybe even make a shirt from scratch. I'm not super experienced with sewing but as longs as its not to hard i can always get my mom to help me.
here's my issues:
tan lines
shirt getting pulled down
heat
sweat
dirt
comfort

i would wear a cami to help avoid bad tan lines but they get pulled down really easy, but a reg. tank or t shirt would make real bad tan lines(i do not want a farmers tan), longish selves would make me to hot and white(the cool color) would show to much dirt.

gah so many issues. any suggestions on what to make, or even any suggestions on how to avoid the issues with just one of the problems would be greatly appreciated.

does anyone know how lace works with tans( is it like reg cloth or is the tan normally not so obvious?)

anyways thanks for your help and time

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / CALLING ALL MOTHERS! i need your advice. on: June 13, 2008 02:10:29 PM
one of my bestest friend is about 8 moths pregnant with a little girl. my friend is only 20(her styles kinda edgy-ish) but shes had a lot of expierence with babys and children and everything that goes along with it all.
so heres my question, being a mom, what were somethings(homemade) that you got at your baby shower and really loved/found to be useful?
I was thinking about making like a crib bedset(she was telling me how expensive they were). would that have been something you would have liked? also with the ones you have had was there an thing you could think that would make them better?(ie. plastic lining, more cushion, less cushion, easier ways to get it to stay on, different material) im sure at 3am some thought rolled through you head about how thing could be easier, thats what i want to know. actually i want to know anything you think may help. Huh i dont know anything about being a new parent, or babies, or anything of the sort. ive never even held an infant.
so anything you found useful, anything you wish you had, any advice at all would be so great and so appreciated.

also i was thinking of making a baby bag for her and her husband, something cute but still unisex so he wont feel weird carring it. so my question for you is: what would you like in a baby/diaper bag? how many pockets? dirty diaper storage? bottle cubbys? binky pouchs? and so on. so if you could give a discription of your dream babybags that be awesome!

thank you all so much for your time and input,
manda
4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / A last all night with no worries or touch up kinda costume? on: September 27, 2007 11:41:50 AM
I'm still not completely sure what ill be doing the night of halloween, but my friends and i are leaning towards "Halloween in the Castro" an all night outdoor party in San Francisco. which means i need a costume thats gonna last a Bart ride, a long walk/maybe bus ride, and hours of walking/dance through endless crowds of tightly packed people, not to mention what ever parties that happen the weekend before.

so what can i be thats low maintenance, has comfortable shoes, and a jacket that makes sense both on and off? also i want to look sexy without looking skanky and i don't want to be the same thing as 100's of other people, but i still want to be something almost everyone will recognize.

so with all that said, any ideas?
5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Whats Scary? Like real life scary? on: September 01, 2007 09:55:06 PM
Huh one of my favorite things about fall is decorating my house for halloween. but i don't like doing fake graves stones or playing the monster mash or anything like that, i believe it is my duty to scare the trick-or-treaters as much as possible, make them think they are facing death just going up to the front door because only then do they deserve they're treats.
i like to set up a week or so early, that way no ones really sure if its just decorations or if my family worships the devil or something.
in years past Ive done dolls hanging from my tree with real newses around their necks, with strobe lights, fog, death metal blasting from inside the house. 1 kid even started crying "i don't wanna go up there mommy" so when he did i gave him extra candy for his bravery.

but now I'm stumped on whats within my realm of doing(meaning not to pricey) but still scary and creepy enough to freak out the teenagers who come around.
so i ask you, what would creep you out to the point of not wanting to go to the door, or thinking twice about letting your kids go to the door? Wink
6  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Art At Arms Length *photography* on: June 22, 2007 10:51:40 PM

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Advice? on: June 22, 2007 10:36:26 AM
so i know this isnt really clothing, but i wanted to ask this form because you all know sewing, pattern making, fabrics, etc.

about a year ago i bought a 67' mustang... now this july ill be getting my licence and i want it to be running/looking great.

the two front seats are a little messed up, so i was wondering..... have any of you ever made a seat cover?

because i want to make some for my car and i think i have some idea how id go about it, but im really not sure.

so my main question is, has anyone here done it/and how?

also what fabrics do you think would be durable enough for a seat cover?

any help/advice would be great. thank you!

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / First try at earrings on: June 21, 2007 12:00:01 PM
i love earrings and looking at my moms box of buttons inspired me.
im sure a lot of people have probably made ones like these, but im still proud.  Grin

i did all the wire work myself, it took a minute to get the hang of it, but i was surprised by how little time it took me for my first time.

so what do you think?
10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Self Photography on: June 18, 2007 01:07:28 PM
i know with myspace around taking pictures of your self has become very popular.

but i think its truly an art, i mean there are just the "thats so myspace" ones, but theres also some that are very artistic.

knowing your best angles, the correct flash, and just being able to take a good picture at arms length is quite complicated.

maybe its just that i love having complete artistic control over a photo (hair, makeup, background, overall theme, etc.) and I'm the only one who let me do that, but i love doing personal photoshots.

does anyone else look at these "arms length" pictures as an artform?
