okay, here's one of the items I sent to becca red. can't seem to find my other photos, but here's my favorite piece, anyway! Las Vegas themed swap, sent to Scotland.

A fascinator with mini cards and glass dice beads dangling and a mini replica of the famous sign. also feathers galore.

but wait! it's also pasties! there's a hidden snap to turn it into a fascinator Smiley

Hi, just thought I'd add my 2 cents as a semi-pro milliner and costume craftsperson. The ideas of a cap with holes, with dowels with a disc on the end seem to be your best bet. I'd like to recommend to you to use a wired buckram headpiece as a base. in fact, get 2. you can find them online for cheap!

here's a step by step:

text is tiny, let me know if you need it bigger or if you can decipher!!

hope this helps!

5  Feathers! Beads! Pasties! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by sweetbettieleigh on: June 15, 2009 05:07:23 PM
What the heck is that thing?

is it a necklace?

or a headband?

who cares! it's fun!

next up, a Las Vegas Fascinator:

but wait! now it's pasties!!

These were made for the Burlesque swap for 2 different buddies!   The first is a fun beaded/6 string braided.... thing. apparently my partner can wear it as a belt as well!  Smiley  it goes from headband to necklace simply by switching hooks on the back side.

The Las Vegas fascinator/pasties have a secret hidden snap! The larger beads are glass dice, and there are teeeeeny tiny playing cards on the left side hiding in the feathers.

Hooray for things that can also be other things!!

I waited til I received from everyone so that I could post my goodies all at once!! Smiley

**note: i was able to upload the batch of the fronts with no issue but every time i try to upload the shots of the BACKS it won't let me?! i'll work on this.**

my theme was fairytales!! everyone picked their favorite Smiley

from windoverireland:
snow white!

the corset and comb are made of clay! and she made a little spells book!!!! looooove!

from audio-astrophysics:

she included a lovely lil note explaining about how the text is intended to be a scroll. it's got the cinderella story written out in tiiiiiiiny letters! and i LOVE the detail of the glass slippers in the background!

from pinkpug, ink:

jessica simpson as rapunzel! in a tower! with roses on vines! with gold ribbons as hair with A TINY LITTLE COMB!!!!!!! <3 <3
the back proclaims :"LET DOWN YOUR HAIR!"  Smiley

and from edelC:
the frog prince!

the amount of tiny details on this is amazing. the text says:
" maybe in every woman, there's a princess" "what if every frog is a prince" "just one kiss" and my FAVORITE: "Imagine a world where every fairy tale is true"  *sigh. wouldn't that be bliss?
The clouds are iridescent and the frog prince is ADORABLE. hopefully I can get my images of the backs to load properly, because there's a beautiful little drawing of sleeping beauty on the back.

and also this little gem! a literal translation:

a fairy! telling fairy tales to an attentive rabbit and mouse! and a squirrel too, he's hiding behind the ribbon.  Smiley

Ladies, thank you for your lovely art! I love that you all independently chose different fairy tales and put forth a real effort into these! I hope you all enjoy your pages, they should be arriving in the next few days!!!

9  What the hell's an Easter Bonnet?! in Costumes: Completed Projects by sweetbettieleigh on: April 27, 2009 03:45:22 AM
Hi all,

There's a fantastic charity fundraiser out here in Vegas to support the St. Therese Center - a local HIV/AIDS outreach center. With the growing number of Broadway (and many others!) types of shows, a couple of folks put together the Las Vegas version of the Broadway Easter Bonnet Competition. The idea is that each show presents a skit in a way that will highlight their "bonnet" (the term is relative, as you will see in a moment.)

I had submitted on behalf of Spamalot last year, and played it SO safe and made a teeny hat compared to the others. We didn't even place. SO! this year, I decided to go for BIIIIIIGGGGGER.

I have the marvelous fortune of working with some AMAZINGLY talented folks at my (job at a very large circus company out here) who were more than willing to jump on the bandwagon with me. We used the song "Love Story" by Shirley Bassey, remixed by the Away Team, and called our bonnet the Art of Love. All costumes , fascinators, accessories etc. were created by yours truly (and borrowed heavily from the Alice line, I admit. Handy to have a stock, eh?) and the makeup and hair design, in addition to the choreography, were done by my partners in crime. We're calling ourselves the Eggplant Bungalow.

wicked impressive, right? NOPE.

Here's the rest of it.

Hiding in the top of the piece were these GIGANTIC fans that I'd recovered with appliqued banners spelling out Art of Love, and the audience just kept gasping!

I had hidden a looong mailing tube across the length of the back (also covered in the black fabric so you couldn't see it) and had put together these HUGE banners of 7 yard long stripey bits. It was supercheap, super lightweight polyester that became very very tiny when stuffed into the tuuuube.

Fully extended!

My apologies for the blurry pictures. I don't own the rights to the pretty shots!

the costumes and makeup

oh yeah, we WON!!!! Smiley

I've received from critter and calluna!!

from critter! this sweet little castle Smiley

this beautiful page full of wings! i love the poem, which reads:

"Many Wings"
Many wings are beating
into the wind
to their adventure
Earth, sea, be kind!

Dream-plumed, for voyaging
one after one,
Into star weather,
Out past the sun.

Wind thrilled between worlds,
spreads their desire...
be kind to many wings,
air, water, fire.

love them!!!  thanks ladies!
