11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Feather Hair Extension Supplies on: April 03, 2011 05:42:39 PM
I'm sure you've all noticed the new awesome trend of feather hair extensions. I'd really like to dye and design my own for my hair, but I can't find anywhere online that just sells the long, thin, rooster saddle/hackle feathers. Anyone know a supplier where I can get them?

I was thinking of the same idea...I found a few possibilities on etsy.
Here's one. Here's another. HTH!

13  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Method of Payment: Square, coolest thing ever! on: February 12, 2011 09:35:21 AM
I'm considering starting a small freelance business as a makeup artist and learned about Square and thought I should share. If you are a person who can't afford a card reader but does have a smart phone (Android or iPhone/iPad), you can accept credit cards via Square. Download the app (Square) and visit squareup.com to get a free card reader (a "square"). There are fees, like everything on earth, but they're not too bad. $0.15 + 2.75% on anything you swipe through your square, somewhere under 4% for keyed-in card numbers. As a makeup artist, if I charge $50 for a makeup application, I can run the client's card right there, in front of them and pay only $1.50. That's small potatoes. So if you're a person who does a lot of craft fairs or sells a lot in-person, you should think about getting Square for your smartphone. I have no affiliation with them, I just think it's neat and mega useful.

mta: apparently, square pays for advertising on craftster (or Google is way too smart), because i just checked the thread and at the bottom i see this:

16  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Zine Swap...Round 2? on: October 11, 2010 09:23:53 AM
I don't know if there's been another round since 11/25/08 (Swap Thread[url=http://, [url=https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=288009.0]Gallery], [url=https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=288009.0]Gallery) but I'd love to make another zine.

The idea is you are grouped in a group of maybe 5 people (maybe three, maybe just one? But the more the merrier, I think) and you swap a zine. So if you're in a group of 5, you'd make 4 copies of your zine to send to partners.

The zine topic could be anything. Whatever interests you or you feel like sharing. It can be text, illustration, comic but usually there's a theme, like "Sea Creatures" and the zine follows some format. It's not *usually* a collage. There's usually some text.

It can be: a list, a to-do list, a travelogue, a wishlist, a how-to (craft-related or otherwise), what's wrong with our government, what's wrong with ______, a recollection of a time in your life (my life as a stripper, my years at Yale), a comic strip (but it should have some length to it, 1-3 pages is a pretty short zine, aim for 10-20+ pages.

Zines are usually pretty rough looking, with black and white stapled pamphlet/book appeal. But every zine is different. A zine should have something to say in a cohesive way. It's (usually) more than a sketchbook (not to hate on drawing!) but not as refined as a glossy magazine.

So is anyone up for a zine swap?
17  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Make-a-Friend Round 7? 2010 or 2011? on: October 11, 2010 09:07:48 AM
I want to get in on this but I'm not always on Craftster or looking for new swaps/swap ideas. Is there a way I could be put on a list and when sign ups start, I'll join? I really like this idea. I've made several friends just from regular Craftster swaps. I love the idea of a making a friend on purpose Smiley

Yes, 6craftycats, please share how you did that! It looks awesome! I'm really curious. Is the white on the lighthouse clear/see-through? Wow!  Shocked

...my mail carrier was showing up while i was in class - and i needed to give her 36 more cents o-O Ugh. Evil Mail lady - next time write a note! >( )

STUPID APC!!! Well, I hope it was worth your 36 cents Sad

I hate using that thing. I couldn't purchase DC either on it. It's a nice idea but sometimes you just need a skilled person to help you get what needs to go where it's going! I wonder if it was because of the beads I glued on..? Like they made it too thick? I put it up against the ruler and it was less than 3/4". Picky, picky...

Oh yeah, and everyone who's interested should watch the video on YouTube of the Feather Starfish Swimming. So pretty!!
