1  Hemming help! in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by CellophaneFlowers on: July 16, 2008 12:46:26 PM
I got this Vera Wang dress on sale at Kohl's ($15!) and couldn't pass up its beautiful fabric and details. However, it's a little long on me, and I'm not sure if the tent-dress style (especially combined with the extra length) is very flattering on my petite frame. I'd like to hem it to make it into a (modest Roll Eyes) mini-dress, but I've never tried to hem something like this before. Also, there are some nice pleats at the bottom of the dress (some in the back that you can't see in the picture also) that I'd like to salvage if at all possible. I don't feel too bad chopping it up since I got it cheap, but I'd like to do it justice - after all, I'm hoping to wear it to a few weddings this summer!

(Please ignore the hokey picture - it's the only one I could find online of the dress Cheesy.)

2  Re: Promalong - Making your own Prom dress? Join the club! in Clothing Sewalongs by CellophaneFlowers on: November 19, 2006 08:42:54 PM

Okay, so it wasn't for prom...it was homecoming. Big difference. I used this pattern, from a fellow Craftster member:

It got finished the night of the dance, three hours before...talk about cutting it close! But it was so comfortable and soft and silky...well worth it.

3  Re: My Babydoll Dress!!! Now with TUTORIALNESS! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by CellophaneFlowers on: October 29, 2006 09:15:17 AM
Okay, here's my version...We had to modify the pattern a bit to compensate for our short fabric supply. We shortened the top and bottom pieces and lengthened the waistband. In hindsight, I wish I would have made the waistband out of a solid color, but everyone loved it! They couldn't believe we made it...especially the night before and the night of the dance! Thanks so much for the great pattern. Smiley
