21  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Saxaphone upholstering help please! on: June 17, 2006 08:26:19 PM
I've had to reupholster (what a weird word) many a clarinet and bass clarinet cases.

But again, I'm a slacker and didn't try to terribly hard.

So basically, all you do is take new fun semi fuzzy fabric and lay it over the previous outline of the saxophone foam. (If you have to refoam it, I would lay in some of that almost couch-like foam and put the sax in, and leave it for a while to get an impression).

Then...turn to hot glue! Just go around the corners and tuck the fabric in all of the little tight spots and hot glue it down. Don't forget to add a little slack for the sax though.

Is this making sense? I'm not totally sure. But here are some pictures of my latest case. Its held up for two years now.

This is the outline of the case. Actually, the inside of this one is lined with Styrofoam, so that's something to think about (I didn't do that though, it came that way- I can't imagine it being too difficult)

A close up of the inner workings (you can tell its getting a bit bare- I march, so I'm extra hard on my case)

And the clarinet in there, snug as a glove (yay for slant rhyme!)

I hope that was at least semi helpful...

I used to LOVE shrinky dinks when I was wee, and finding something to do out of them now is GREAT!

So are the Distillers.

thanks!

Yes, it was done with an exacto knife at about 3 am, so its kind of rough. I'm honestly not sure how I'm going to finish them yet, so I'm open to any suggestions.

I saw all of the ADORABLE Mary Jane's out of converses on here, and I have the perfect pair for mary janes, but they are red plaid wool. They stopped making those babies in the 80's and if I botched them, I'd never forgive myself.

So I thought I'd take a gamble and botch some men's dress shoes from the thrift store (I wear a size 5 in men's, so I'm not sure who turned those bad boys in)

Originally- cute but bad on the feet.

And then...

A little rough around the edges, I know, but I'm fixing that later...Too much work for right now Smiley

Very cute!

You might want to try to clean up the lines a bit on the next pair to make em even better!

Where do you get shoes like that? I'd kill for a pair...
