1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / cleopatra outfit on: October 01, 2007 03:14:33 PM
so i decided im going to be cleopatra for halloween this year.
i bought a whole bunch of creamy white fabric and im planning on making a dress. i bought a pattern that i can alter i bit to make it how i want.

i was thinking a deep v-neck halter.
and then the skirt would be to the floor.
with a slit so people can see my lace up sandals.

i have my make up all planned out
and that should be fun

but i was wondering if any of you had ideas for accessories.
like a belt, bracelets, hair stuff, etc.
and how would i go about making them?

it is lined with pink flannel that makes it super comfy
and the outside is just grey knitted t-shirt fabric.
there's a pocket on the front, but thats not exciting.
ill try and add more pictures later

i hope you all like it!

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / my fav. costume ever on: August 02, 2007 11:07:39 PM
Ok, so while reading through some of the Halloween posts it reminded me of my 6th grade Halloween costume. I was Marie Antoinette. Ha, ya i know seems a little old for a 6th grader, but it was so clever. i went to a wedding dress store in town and the lady there was nice enough to let me look in the attic of the store to see if anything was up to par. i ended up finding a super old wedding dress that they gave me for 40 dollars. my mom and i altered it to fit me and made it a little more renaissance-y. I also bought a super awesome wig to go with it. My personal favorite part of the costume was this fake bloody gash that we put on my neck. it looked pretty real. I wasn't allowed to wear the blood to school, sadly, so i got a cake box and wrote "Let them eat cake" on it and walked around with that. it received the same amount of attention, so i was content.

anyways, after all that rambling, here's the picture i found.
[excuse the glare--i have yet to buy a scanner]

the mask and cape weren't part of the costume--i actually have no idea why i am wearing that.

i also wish i could reuse the costume for this upcoming halloween, but the costume is WAY to fussy to wear in highschool. plus, after the movie Marie Antoinette came out, it just doesnt seem as original anymore.

anyways, just thought i'd share! thanks!
5  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Cache dress on: July 20, 2007 09:32:08 PM
i absolutely adore this dress from Cache!
it doesn't exactly fit in my price range for dresses, so i was wondering if any of you guys have ideas on how to make it.
it doesn't look that complicated.
i like how the skirt part is almost like a bubble skirt.
the top looks more tricky tho. it seems to have a built in bra and everything.

here is the dress:http://www.cache.com/cache/control/product/~category_id=0100/~product_id=05044A12430121

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / pattern sizing on: July 17, 2007 04:51:03 PM
I know its wayy early to even be thinking about this, but lately in my pattern searching ive been seeing adorable Disney princess costume patterns.
The problem is they are all for children! There is NO way i could ever fit into a children's size 5. I also cant seem to find any adult patterns.

how would i go about making one my size?
would i just change all the measurements in the childs pattern? or are there any techniques or any ideas i could use?

thanks so much
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / sewing mannequin on: June 10, 2007 01:39:17 PM
ok so a couple of my friends have these really awesome mannequins. They are adjustable so you can make it custom fitted. I have seen in some of the pictures for clothes on this site that people have them. Do you know where to get one? It would be SO handy to have.
