11  Much Prettier Planter in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by pennydreadfull on: September 21, 2012 07:38:59 AM
My mom moved to Tucson, AZ last year from PA where my sister and I are.  The house she used to live in here had a ginormous greenhouse so she handed down a few of the plants she couldn't take with her to my sister and I.  One of the plants I got was this adorable Haworthia succulent.  It's a very dark green color with white specks on the leaves and it's spikey, it's sometimes mistaken for aloe (even tho it's a lot smaller).
Even tho I love the plant, I hated the planter it was in.  It was also a dark green and it totally took away from the color of the plant.  Plus it was pretty plain and boring. After perusing pinterest one day I saw some cute terracotta pots that were jazzed up with lace.  I knew I could do the same thing so I busted out some paints, lace and mod podge!
I mixed up this beautiful blue color, mod podged over it so that when I water the plant the acrylic paint won't get ruined and added the lace trim.
I love it now!!
Here's a before and after shot...

He acually lives on top of my TV stand but the color blue was not coming out well in the pictures I was taking inside.

Thanks for looking, C&C always welcome!

12  Crocodile Cuff Bracelet in Crochet: Completed Projects by pennydreadfull on: September 21, 2012 07:16:46 AM
I actually decided to refer to the crocodile stitch as the dragon stitch for my mom.  I made her this cuff bracelet for her birthday and she loooves dragons so it made sense to me!
This is the first time I've made anything with Crocodile stitch but I really like.  It has lots of texture to it.  Even in just a plain pearly white it was beautiful!

thanks for looking!

13  Blackwork Tudor Rose in Needlework: Completed Projects by pennydreadfull on: May 22, 2012 06:58:16 PM
In the ongoing hoopla swap round 6 I chose a partner who listed Blackwork as a theme.  I've never actually done any blackwork but I think it is so beautiful, this was the perfect excuse!  I looked all over the place for a good design and finally settled on a tudor rose becuase my partner also listed Tudor History in her themes.
While making this I was able to use all the different craft books I've gotten at rummage sales and thrift stores over the years to find different patterns which made me happy!
This took much longer than I expected but the end result was well worth it.  It was pretty easy to work on while vegged out on the couch in front of the TV too.  After the first few repeats of the pattern is done, you don't have to think too much.  Wink

Here are some in progress shots too in case you're interested...

Thanks for looking!!

14  chicago in Needlework: Completed Projects by pennydreadfull on: May 22, 2012 06:50:31 PM
One of the partners I sent to in the ongoing hoopla swap round 6 listed Chicago as a theme.  I don't know why I jumped at it but I thought doing a skyline would be awesome.  After much looking I found...the skyline is never the freaking same!  I have no idea why I thought there would be one main image of the skyline but...eventually I found a caricature of one that I thought was pretty awesome.  I also thought doing it in an oval hoop would look good with the way the design is.

I was so stressed out about how to make the windows.  I knew they had to be included but I didn't want it to look way too busy.  Luckily using a super light gray floss worked out perfectly!  Someone suggested I try watercolor but that terrifies me...I mean what if you mess up?!  You can't unstitch watercolor!!  I really want to try it at some point though.  I've seen some amazing tinted pieces on this board.

Here are some in progress shots if you're intrested...(i love to see the progressing of a WIP)

Anyway, thanks so much for looking!  C&C always welcome!

15  Re: Ongoing Hoopla Round 6 Gallery & Discussion in The Swap Gallery by pennydreadfull on: May 19, 2012 07:24:38 PM
I came home to some Royal Mail yesterday from rebeccajay!!  A pic of the queen on my package made it feel sooo classy hehehe!!

Becky said this was only the second hoop she's made and I am freaking impressed!!  My theme was 'bats' and I love how they form a heart!  The two felt ones really make it awesome and I ESPECIALLY love how there's only two of them, I am a total fan of asymmetry!  I hate when things are all evened out or center, etc.

Thank you so, so much rebeccajay!  I love my bats!!

It looks awesome on my hoop wall.  When my second hoop arrives I'm going to post a pic to show you how they all look together.

17  Crochet Cuff in Crochet: Completed Projects by pennydreadfull on: May 09, 2012 07:30:18 PM
This pattern was in the spring Interweave Crochet magazine, it's so cute and worked up so fast!  I actually made my mom one for Mother's Day too because she liked it so much.  This was the first time I ever used cotton yarn and it was awesome!  It didn't separate and I got to block something for once  Grin  The motif repeats on the other side and it closes with two buttons.

Thanks for looking, C&C always welcome.

18  Hitch! in Needlework: Completed Projects by pennydreadfull on: May 09, 2012 06:54:00 PM
In the last Ongoing Hoopla Swap I picked a partner with "Alfred Hitchcock" listed as one of her themes.  I was sooo excited!! I freaking love Alfred Hitchcock!!  It took me a while to settle on stitching up his profile.  Of course it popped into my head right away but it seems so obvious to me.  After trying to come up with something better I realized...it's just so classic and perfect!!  I added some birds in the background too!

Thanks for looking!!

In the last Ongoing Hoopla Swap round my partner listed the theme "trees". I looked around at so many diffrent options but I finally decided that I really wanted to try a whole tree of french knots.  I just did plain back stitches in a few different colors for the trunks and branches.  This was the restult!

Thanks for looking! C&C always welcome!

Just as I was leaving for work this afternoon, the mailman was dropping off a package for me!  I practically tore it out of his hand LOL!
I was given the most awesome irish themed hoop by redstar13!! It's a claddagh!!  I absolutely love it, the stitching is awesome and the gold thread for the crown is perfect!!
Thank you sooo much redstar13!!

I can't wait to get home and hang both my new hoops on my hoop wall!!
