4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / FURIOUS! - Another vendor selling my work. on: July 30, 2012 02:32:54 PM
I attended a craft show this weekend. It was lovely until I found something I MADE in a booth. My name had been taken off and someone else's signature was  in it's place. It was a very unique piece and I am POSITIVE it was mine. I even know where they got it. I approached the woman working the booth and asked her "Is this the artist's signature" She smiled and said "Yes! It is!" My response was "No it's not. I made this and donated it to the art re-swap last month. The only alteration to it is you've taken my name off and written your own". Her face drained and she snatched it and put it behind the booth. "Well, I wasn't going to sell it! It's a booth run by 12 year olds."

I really don't believe her story or care who was running it. I approached the organizer of the event as well as the person that organized the event from which they took the piece in the first place. I've done all I can but am still furious! I feel like I need to go to all the local shows to make sure they don't try to sell my work as theirs.

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Kayak Cart on: July 18, 2012 08:06:06 PM
Mr. Ollieorange & I bought a cheap kayak last year. The only carts we could find cost almost as much as the boat did! Mr. Ollieorange made this out of supplies we had around and a set of wheels that cost me $10. We bought a second kayak this year. We are able to just stack the boats on the same cart and still move them easily. It's also nice because I can throw my paddling supplies in the cart while I walk to the lake or creek.
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Ikea Chair slipcover on: July 18, 2012 07:59:27 PM
Cheap(ish) Ikea chair + Joel Dewberry fabric= happy ollieorange (and happy sleepy kitty). I tore apart a store bought slipcover to make the pattern.
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Leather color block necklace on: July 18, 2012 07:52:00 PM
There is a wonderful art gallery here in Madison. Every year they have an Art Re-Swap. The community is invited to bring in unused crafty items and in turn take what they would like. If you don't have anything to donate then they ask for a $5 donation. All proceeds go to an art program they offer for children.
One of the many things I took home were some leather scraps. I made this tonight Smiley
I'm really bad at taking pictures- I promise it looks a lot better in person!

Just as my friend and I were leaving I spotted a beautiful rocking chair frame that just begged to come home with me. This is what it looked like after I had cleaned up the springs and added some webbing to the back:
Progress shot:
Shot with the kitty!
I also had to give it a good polishing. I found a quick easy recipe online that made the wood look gorgeous!
