Did you glue the carpets to the squares? Carpet glue or something else?

The original plan called for carpet tiles. I couldn't find any cheap enough to fit my tastes. If I had used them, then they would have thier own sticky backing to attach.

Since I used just pieces of carpet, I attached them with a staple gun. I figure it will be easier to update/change the carpet if the cats scratch it all to heck.   Wink

That makes sense.

Did you carpet the underside of the cubes, too? What about the inside of each cube? It kinda sorta looks like at least one of them has carpet inside.

Sorry to be such a pest, but Enquiring Minds Want To Know Stuff.

I only put carpet on the tops of each box and 3 of the sides. Since it is meant to sit against a wall, the back sides and bottoms didn't need any. I also put carpet on the inside of just one of the boxes because my cats like some variety in their sleeping surfaces. Some days they like the fluffy insides of a basket of clean laundary, other days they prefer the top of my husbands desk.

Glad you like it.   Grin

I was JUST thinking of making something like that for my bunny. She runs all over the house and doesn't really like toys, but I think she would love a condo! Is that a current issue? Where did you find it? I have a lot of left over plywood from when I built her cage and I'm going to build her another house inside her cage, but even after that I think I'll have plenty of leftover wood.

hmm...

I originally read the magazine at the library. When I decided to make the condo I realized that I should probably buy the mag. I found it for sale at Lowe's. It is a Better Homes and Gardens Special Publication. The date is Summer 2007 so I would expect it to be on the magazine racks for a while.

Glad you like it. I think it would make a perfect rabbit funhouse. You may want to adjust the box sizes depending on how high your rabbitt can jump. Each box is 16 3/4 inches high. So, the whole thing is a little over 4 feet tall. Might be a reach for a smaller size bunny.

I was wondering where you got that cool striped carpet!  Nice thinkin' with the floor mats.

And it looks like the cats enjoy it!  Cool.

The striped carpet also came from Menard's. It was a carpet runner. I was able to get 2 squares out of each runner. The cost of each runner was $4.44. The average cost for each square came out to about $2.

In the last year or so I have started getting interesting in working with wood. Up to now I haven't ever done anything from a plan (mainly I just hammer planks of wood together at right angles and voila...we have a table). However, I couldn't pass this up.

I was flipping through this magazine:

When I saw this picutre:

It says right on the piture "Make It", so I did. Here is the outcome:

A similar cat condo purchased from a pet store or online runs anywhere from $175-$300. The total cost for this project was $70. A large part of that cost ($24) was the carpet. I purchased cheap bath mats from Menard's and cut them to fit because I wanted all different colors and textures. If you have leftover carpet, then this could be an even cheaper project. Just goes to show, crafting isn't just good times...it is also fiscally responsible.   Grin

Finally got my pics all sorted out. Balletfreak made me some fabulous items!
-Etched glass vase/cup the designs for one of my fave books "To Sail Beyond the Sunset". The etching shows a boat in front with a setting sun behind.
-Reading oriented drink coster (fits the etched glass cup perfectly). Shows a woman reading and says "Intelligent"
-Book mark with handmade beads of tiny books with my fave authors names on the books.
-An altered book with a hide-away compartment in the back.
-A book purse!!!

A close up of the bookmark with tiny, tiny bead. How adorable!

Interior of the book purse. I love, love, love it!!

Thank you so much Balletfreak!! You were a great swap partner!!
