there's two things i love about this- 1) it's ingenious and free and 2) your gifts are practical.  what good is another plastic action figure that someone is just gonna step on and break?  i am terribly jealous that you've had so much snow!
15  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Classic Pooh Baby Quilt on: January 02, 2009 03:13:23 AM
and it looks a wee bit wonky shaped in the first pic, but surprisingly it came out near perfectly square.  and yes, pooh is for all babies.  Smiley
16  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Classic Pooh Baby Quilt on: January 01, 2009 03:44:43 PM
A very good friend of mine was "with child" and I knew this would be the first time to try a real quilt. I'd done t-shirt quilts before, but they don't provide me with the satisfaction that the intricacy of a pieced quilt gives. I found Classic Pooh curtains at my local thrift shop and jumped in from there.

It didn't matter whether the baby was going to be a boy or a girl, blue was the color I wanted to work with. I found blue and white striped fabric and the rest was history.
The quilt in its entirety:

The quilt was simple- 4 squares with pieced borders. Each group of 4 Pooh's is one solid square. I then took triangles and sewed them on to the sides so it looked like one square crooked on another. Then I outlined the squares with honeybee fabric that was the sashes of the curtains. Finally, I used a thin stripe of striped fabric to connect each completed square.

I started quilting the bears by hand but it was taking forever, plus I'm not super with clear thread. I ended up switching to freequilting on my machine. Here's a view of the back.

Please pardon the wrinkles.  So whaddya think?

yay!  i love that you love him!  i do to, he's one of my creations that i can't bear to part with.  besides, who else could get away with saying "eat me" and spitting on someone in a children's movie?

Not the buttons!  Not the gumdrop buttons!!!

Anyway, the body itself is felt, but the "piped icing," all the facial features, and even the gumdrop buttons are crocheted.

A closer view:

I took a photo of him from somewhere online, used a copier to blow it up, and crocheted strings in accordance to Gingy's features.  I love the expression on his face.  He lights up my life.
