2  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: College/Cheap, fast, but not horribly unhealthy ---for Vegetarians!!! on: September 21, 2007 02:56:18 AM
I just has an even lazier, quicker (ie, microwaved) version of Nigella's chickpeas with cumin and sherry. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/chickpeaswithcuminan_86962.shtml

I used a single strand of Stahl Skyline light I got long time ago for 50c a ball, on 5.5mm needles, which gave me a snugger hat than the pattern, but maybe I just got a huge head  Tongue
4  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Re: Aus/NZ Tea Towel Tour Swap anyone? on: May 30, 2007 05:29:48 AM
I could do this.
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Glaistig on: May 30, 2007 05:08:28 AM
So making this from http://www.theanticraft.com/archive/samhain06/glaistig.htm served a three-pronged purpose:

1. Gift for a dear friend - her birthday is this Friday, and she is also with child (18 weeks!!)
2. Plough through the stash
3. Not spend a cent, on yarn or packaging. (background; I am on a major frugality kick, since New Year's, which I'm proud to say has brought me out of debt and turned me into a tightfisted bore.)

Thankfully, J. will never know, right, because she doesn't visit this forum, and you won't tell her, right? Right!

Here is the hat perched atop my stunned mug, with no prizes for my photographic or mirror-cleaning skills:

I was unsure about how I was going to present Glaistig, but then it occured to me - I had some plastic Chinese style takeaway containers I could use:

From there, I don't know but it went something like this - brown yarn - soil - pot plant - knitted leaves and flowers - i cord - African violets:

Hot glue on a plastic ladybird:

Now I'm finishing up some items for Baby D, stash only again. So, to end this post on a twee note, as one of your presidents said, Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.

I love it! Your fair isle motifs remind me of a "ye olde style" video arcade game screen.
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: baby shower food help? on: May 19, 2007 03:38:33 PM
There was a great tea sandwich recipe (Pernod-marinated fennel and apple) in CHOW recently that I would love to try, and perhaps you would be interested also:

For the goat cheese I'll be subbing tofutti.

Here'e the splash page for the full tea party feature:

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knitting for babies on: May 19, 2007 07:12:04 AM
Please don't quote me on this, but I can also add that the white and other uber-pastel shades that are chic for babieswear tend to yellow if they are wool, hence the synthetics.
