11  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Yo-Yo Quilt? What are they for? on: August 06, 2007 06:30:49 AM

12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Why must Crafting Turn into a Sweat Shop Atmosphere?! on: August 02, 2007 02:55:32 PM
Why do we sweat so much when crafting?? I cannot stop sweating when i start to sew.
preparing my fabric to sew=sweat
sitting at the machine=sweat
trying it on or readjusting=sweat
I have tried to sew early in the morning and it has made a difference but there is still minor sweating involved.
Non stop sweating that makes me feel like im in a sweat shop!

What are your 2 cents on this subject?
Are we so excited and hurrying along to finish the project? What makes us sweat?

14  COOKING / Dessert / Please i need help with Cake Frosting! on: July 19, 2007 01:15:27 PM
I have been in the kitchen for 2 hours and have not been able to make a decent frosting. Ive used confectioners sugar, ive used whipping cream, ..you name it ive tried it already. I dont know if my problem is that im using a hand beater and what i need is a stand mixer..but im at my wits end. Its a birthday cake and i want the frosting to be buttery and stiff, not fluffy (it gives me the sense that im biting into air) but anyway i know theres a lot of you that know how to do this sort of thing so i ask that you please explain to me the craft of frosting.

PS..also im willing to go and buy some, what is a good frosting that has a thick buttery consistency? Thanks.
15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Monkey Pinata on: July 17, 2007 07:57:18 AM
This is for my husbands bday on Sunday. Its going to be just us on that day and i thought i would surprise him with a pinata. Hes never experienced a pinata on his bday, whereas i always had one on all my bdays growing up. We both love monkey's and I thought it would be appropriate. We're both big kids.
I plan to stuff it with his favorite candies, some museum tickets, pez and dispensers with his favorite characters and a note to find another big present ive hid.
This took me 2 days to make.
First i blew up a balloon to the size i wanted, paper mache'd it, let it dry over night, and painted it this morning. I glued the ears with a glue gun and this afternoon i will stuff it.

Do you think he'll like it?
I plan to make the stick into a banana, anyone have ideas how??
Should i go with the same theme on his cake? or would it be Way Too Kiddish? Ideas? (so far ive got planned that its going to be a caramel cake, which he loves)

19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Dvd Gift Holder on: June 27, 2007 05:56:44 AM
I made this for my brother's bday. Its a pouch to hold a dvd i got for him. Inside i also put a pouch of popcorn and candy, plus the soundtrack to the dvd. It also has a gift tag and inside is a note wishing him happy bday. It closes with velcro. He probably wont care much for it but im quite  proud of it. Im also going to make something of this sort for a book i bought my mom.

Anyway, heres the pics:

Dvd Inside (sorry its dark and sort of wrinkled)

20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Lace on Ribbon on: June 27, 2007 05:49:03 AM
So this isnt really a reconstruction but more of an embellishment to an otherwise throw in the trash top.
First off i love anything that has a ribbon. I saw this at goodwill, then i washed it, dried it (dummy me) and the ribbon got messed up. I was upset but then i found a way to fix it - lace!
Its still quite cute and now i can wear it without looking like a dummy.
