1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / younger sister sweet 16?! Next week on: July 31, 2009 05:52:18 PM
Soooo.... basically, I'm a horrible sister. My younger sister's 16th birthday is next week. I only just realized this...now I have NO IDEA what to get her. I need you guys to help me.
She likes:
  • Harry Potter
  • Twilight
  • Dr Who
  • Comic Books
  • and..stuff like that?

So my best idea so far is to make her a cake with the Tardis(Dr. Who) on it....any other suggestions?
Help is GREATLY appreciated,

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / 3XL tee shirt to size 6 dress. on: March 21, 2009 08:09:02 PM
Well, I was bored so I set out for a task...and I found it in this $3 tee shirt.
It took a lot of work but I am pretty pleased with how it came out. This shirt only reminds me of how much I need a dress form....but I can only hope that I will find one someday and adopt it.  Grin

3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Corset for pirate wench costume on: October 27, 2008 04:49:39 PM
I decided that this year I just HAD to dress up. I also decided that I didn't want some cheaply made overpriced store bought costume. Plus I have no money because I lost my job in July and due to the greatness of the economy- have yet to find a new one. Anywho....
So I sat in my craft area looking through things I had. Nothing.... 2 weeks ago I came home and my mom had left this amazing black skirt on my bed. She found it in her closet and didn't know why it was there. As soon as I saw the skirt it just screamed- PIRATE WENCH! Maybe that is because of the love for pirates I have always had.
My problem was I had no top and didn't want to settle with the simple white flowy ones. So I decided to make a corset. I must admit I was quite intimidated, however I figured if I never tried then I would just be mad at myself.
So I cut up an old pair of my sister's jeans to use as the base, took some measurements, sewed, cut, sewed, added trim, added ribbon, sewed, then hand sewed each individual ring on the back by hand. It didn't look cute so I added some red fabric to the bottom....
and now I have a corset that I must admit I am VERY proud of.

back. it looks funny in this picture but I promise it really isn't crooked like that.
The best part is it only cost 6 dollars to make. I just had to by the rings- $3 for 60 and the ribbon an chording-$3. =]
In the first pic you can also see my little drawstring bag I made to carry my wallet and phone.

Please tell me what you think. Smiley

5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / rainbow dress watercolor on: June 10, 2008 08:37:13 AM
So I had to do a contest work for my Drawing II class. The contest I chose to do was a mothers & daughters theme. Well mine doesn't have a mother but it does have a daughter...
I used a picture frm Vegbee's Rainbow Twirly Patch dress ( I will post the link when I find it).
here is the link to her dress. I used the first pic as a basis.
Thanks to her for letting me use the image. Grin

I love the way the finished product came out.

It is watercolor and is about 8" by 11"....or so...
I wish I couldd've gotten more details but I was running out of time and the watercolor just couldn't be bothered...
The picture of course takes away some of the color. IT looks much better in person.

C&C welcome.

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Icky Bookshelf recon on: June 09, 2008 11:00:23 AM
ok so, I was in desperate need of a bookshelf, plus something to do. So I set out looking for yard sales, found one, and this:

Im not a big fan of plain wood. It isn't even real wood anyway.... but it was also scratched, covered in cob webs, and smelled of cigarette smoke. Yucky. So I cleaned it, sprayed it for bugs, cleaned it again, and then painted it. 2 layers of black paint later, and the next morning, I have I simple bookshelf.

I am much happier with it now. I am thinking of maybe putting some details or something on the sides, but I don't know where it will be next year when I move out, and I want it to match.

7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / advice on move preparation on: June 05, 2008 09:45:40 PM
Ok, I didnt exactly know what to title this. Basically the story is this. Next May I will be able to move out of my parent's house and into an apartment with my boyfriend. By then we will have been together 3 years. He is going to school this year in another city while I finish high school here. I know the next year is going to be long and agonizing, so in order to help me cope and the year not be so slow, I have decided to go ahead and work on crafting our future home. This may sound odd, but it makes sense in a way. So, I would like suggestions on things that would be good to go ahead and get out of the way.

Things I have thought of, though I may need help include:
1.Cushioned headboard( we slept in a bed with one of these and I LOVED it.)
2. Reupholstered chair for living room area. I already have this, I just can't find the fabric I want.
3. Ottoman to go w/ chair.
4. Coffee/end table(s)
5.Throw pillows for a small sofa that match chair.
6.maybe a bed frame if I can't get a cheap one.
7. Magnetic bulletin board/white board.

There are plenty of things we will need. I know organization will be a big deal.He is going to a 4 year college, I will be going to a 6 month massage course, he plays guitar and has LOADS of things for that, I'm a bellydancer and have lots of expensive/handmade costumes I just won't be able to give up...etc.

So if anyone has ideas or suggestions of other things I should do, feel free to make comments.

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / tons of aprons on: May 24, 2008 06:48:10 AM
Ok, so I stumbled upon at least 10 free aprons. Problem is, I don't know what to do with them all. I am going to keep a couple for myself to use. I want to mainly just find cute ways to decorate them. Maybe sell them, or give them as gifts? Does anyone have suggestions on what to do with all of these aprons? I have yellow, red, navy blue, green, orange(?), and regular blue, plus one denim colored ones.  I probably have more than ten, I haven't actually counted them, just stared....
So if anyone has ANY suggestions, Im all ears. I would even be willing to try a swap in which I decorate the apron all pretty like for you in exchange for something else. =]
The aprons are halter-esque with ties around the waste and pockets on the bottom. My mom works in a cafeteria at a school and her boss was just going to throw them all away, so my mom brought them to me. Grin
9  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / recipe for grandparents? on: May 19, 2008 03:35:25 PM
Ok, so my bf's grandparents and his aunt are coming over for his graduation this week. They will probably be here a week or two and I want to make them something. Probably bake...
but anyway- I have no idea what to make. They are from the Wales/England area. I have never met his dad's parent's before(his dad is deceased) but I have met his mom's mom. I thought cookies, but I don't want to give them something too sweet. So I think muffins or something.Any suggestions? I have a cool recipe for upside down muffins(inverted w/ fruit on bottom).
so...yeah? thoughts?
Thank you very much.
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / 2 year anniversary on: April 11, 2008 10:02:49 PM
So, May 27th is my 2  year with the most amazing bf Ive ever had. Now, that said, no idea what to do for him. I want to do something romantic, but also practical. he graduates May 23rd and is going to college this summer. I want to get him something amazing that makes him think of me when Im not around. I have another year of school until I can move out and be with him. I think I want to take some pictures of us together... not sure on everything yet.
Any suggestions?
I think we will go to the movies, that was our 1st date and we did it last year as a cute little thing.
