1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Bubo virginianus (Great Horned Owl) costume on: October 02, 2015 09:35:13 PM
So glad I came across this! I'm going as a bat this year and have a similar costume in mind. The "retractable" wing-tips are genius!
I see that this was a few years ago, but if you see this: What did you think of making your dress and wings out of the panne? I nearly bought some today but I'm afraid of it being too thin or stretchy for a dress

I don't have experience with this type of thing, but: can you get a safety pin though the fabric? Perhaps you could pin the laces and see how the shoes feel when you put them on/take them off, before committing to sewing.
3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sewing Machine / Serger Q&A on: January 21, 2010 02:26:24 PM
hello, smart people!
i have a question about my brother ce-4000 sewing machine
it's a top-loader

aaaaand it's sick!

the bobbin case is not catching on the spring as it is supposed to. i wish it would look like step three in this picture:
but the shuttle is too far away from the spring by a millimeter or two.

the shuttle is spinning around backwards!
i hope i'm missing something very obvious, but i can't think of anything else to do!

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: brother sewing machine CE4000 bobbin case help on: May 28, 2008 01:56:37 PM
so, i went and checked to see if the bobbin was going the right way and, lo and behold, sewing machine is being nice again!

i don't know why it started working again... perhaps something got jostled back into place during its journey from dining room to bed room

whatever happened, i am happy about it!
yet i feel a bit (a lot) silly for posting a nonexistent problem

oh well

thanks, angeltreats, for the advice Smiley

i have a CE4000 that looks similar to that one and i have enjoyed it so far...
my favorite part about it is that it stitches as slowly and smoothly as you want

10  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / brother sewing machine CE4000 bobbin case help on: May 28, 2008 12:53:59 PM
so, my machine is being mean and i don't know how to make it nice again...
what's happening is this- the bobbin thread is getting tangled in the case thing and isn't catching on the upper thread

by the way, the bobbin works like that one-

...it loads from the top and doesn't have a case that you have to remove when you put the bobbin in like on the sideways old school ones

i fiddled around with it and it seems like the top thread is getting looped around by the hook, but is getting stuck between the projection and spring

the blue part of the last picture is where the lower thread is getting caught:

not sure what to do- have any ideas?
thanks in advance  Smiley

...by the way, i had been sewing over sequins and fur... don't know if that would have messed it up any...
also, i checked to make sure i was using the correct size of bobbin and correct needle...
i also changed the needle and cleaned out the bobbin lint Smiley lots and lots
and i rethreaded a bunch

and i had been sewing on it like 12 hours before...

k thanks
