21  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Cabled Hand and Coffee Warmer [img heavy] with pattern on: October 22, 2007 07:58:56 PM
I'm so making at least one of these! Question though...I've never had the patience to figure out cables so if we were leaving that out would you just do reverse stockinette instead?

You did fab.  I just learned to crochet too.  I love it cuz it is so portable and versitile.

You don't have to give up knitting, either, there is room in life for both!  I would rather give up cleaning the house, myself, if I have to make more time to crochet and knit...not that I know how to knit...yet...all things are possible with craftster...

ahem.  Excuse my ramblings.

Yeah I'll still do both. I like to be versatile with my crafts. I taught myself how to knit just using online resources and of course Craftster.

awesome! it looks great, and it's functional - automatically beats my first crochet item  Wink
after 7 years of pathetic knitting ability, i switched to crochet and am not looking back. question is, will you convert?  Cheesy

I love knitting don't get me wrong. But let's just say I've never actually finished anything this big with knitting...nothing bigger than a dishcloth. I'm waiting on my mom to send me my Happy Hooker book so I can learn more but for now I'm learning with How To Crochet by Pauline Turner.

Squeee! I can't believe it! After 3.5 years of knitting I have actually figured out crochet! I started off just practicing single crochet across 6 stitches and it ended up being a 6 foot scarf! I made it in Christmas colors because I thought it would take a lot longer than it did. I'm sure I made lots of mistakes. I even attempted a single crochet border in white. Again I'm sure I did it wrong but I like it so who cares if it's done right hehe. Hope you enjoy! Also ignore the mess on the couch, I've been sick all weekend and thats where I've been laid up crocheting.

buy Debbie Stollers Happy Hooker...it has been by far the best resource for me and I NEVER thought I would learn to crochet.

its a GODSEND. seriously.

I had it but I've lost it somewhere between here and my mom's house when I moved. I might just have to buy another copy.

I just wanted to say thank you for posting this! I am teaching myself crochet and for the same exact reason...I want to crochet some of those so cute I could pass out amigurami's. After doing a 6 foot long single crochet scarf I'm ready to branch out LOL.

That is so cute! I'm just learning crochet...I've figured out the stitches but not crocheting in the round! Hopefully I can though in time to make one of these for Christmas.

Very nice tutorial.  I have some vintage Christmas scenes I think will work well on these.
Marylee

Oh I didn't even think of doing actual Christmas scenes!
