1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / What do i do wit these on: August 28, 2011 02:40:25 AM
hi all,
I have 19 (and counting) tins of baby milk powder. I just don't want to throw away the tins, it seems such a waste.. please suggest what can i do with them as i am flummoxed....
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Praying hands on: October 05, 2010 06:46:37 AM
I stumbled upon a nice sketch of a couple of hands folded in prayer. It looked secular enough to be presented to my husband's commandant. So I embroidered it in cross stitch on a casement cloth. I am not sure what it is called outside India, it is a fabric with symmetrical weave, ideal for cross stitch, only it is very, very, very small.
So I sat with the piece for a week, and my hands and eyes burned for another one week, but I finished it, and presented it. I was so pleased that it was well received.
Here is the piece, with a staples box for size comparison.

Sorry, I don't have a pic of framed final piece, I forgot to take one before I gave it away...
PS: Later my husband sent me a link. Apparently there's a story behind these hands, and an inspiring one at that!!

6  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: [RESOLVED 06/10/10] Preview not visible on Google Chrome on: June 25, 2010 02:00:13 AM
Just off topic rant
Kudos to the moderators here. When I reported the problem I never really thought anyone would look at it, it being such a small problem. In fact I myself did not really followed it up after reporting the issue and used to just stumble upon it every now and then.
But you guys have been so prompt in your response (I see the timestamps!!!). In no other site have I seen such dedicated moderators.
You guys rock!! Congratulations and Thank you.

I can now see the preview properly in chrome with or without images.
Thank you.

9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: My first Afghan!! on: June 07, 2010 07:41:28 AM
I just realised my project features among hot new topics. My first ever since I became a member here!! yay!! So I finally have my two minutes of fame  Grin
Thank so much...

If you have no use for the afghan, you can always find a charity that collects blanket donations.  Lionbrand Yarns has a "charity connection" on their website where you can find organizations that are in need of crochet/knit items. I think they have listings all over the world.
I did look at their site, but couldn't find anything in India. Nonetheless, there are a few charities that work in my hometown, where I know things will eventually reach the needy, when I get to go home, I'll donate it there. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you so much everybody!!
Finishing your first afghan is a milestone and a testament to your crafty patience..........
perhaps you could use it as a lapghan or cuddle blanket whilst reading or watching TV once it gets cooler Grin
This indeed tested my patience when I was joining all the granny squares together, and it made me appreciate all the craftsters here who have been giaganormous afghans using the same techniques.
And thanks for the suggestion. I'll mostly be using it as a lapghan, or will probably gift it to any of the cousins if they happen to have a baby!!

That is beautiful I really need to work on learning to crochet.
Well, here are the links for the tutorials I used. After searching all over the internet, I zeroed in on the following, as I found their instructions the easiest, so far less daunting than most others. Hope this helps....

Isn't the internet great?  Wink Lovely colours!
I can't begin to sing praises for internet, most of my craft skills are courtesy internet!

Those colours really look great together. The dark really makes everything else pop!
Thank you so much. I was afraid that dark and light combination might make it look too tacky, but the combination seems to have worked well, fortunately! Smiley
