10641  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: To make soap, or not to make soap on: November 30, 2008 02:48:12 PM
What Nymeria said! I make a "Gift of the Magi" soap with the frankincense and myrrh fragrance and add gold mica to it to make it shimmery.  I then wrap them in pretty red with gold mulberry paper and pretty ribbon.

I thought according to the new rules for ongoing swaps you had to close them at the end of the month? You can always close this one and just open the new one a couple days late.

I love doing these! I do mine without a mold and kinda hand carve them at the end.  Here's a tute I wrote up for the way I do it (no in progress pics though)

Yay, I got both of my groups sent out today! Now I just have to work on stuff for my craft fair next week, and then I can start stitching on all this pretty fabric I keep receiving!

The blocks so far are very fun to look at!

I'll be starting this swap probably Sunday at midnight...if not I'll get it up monday night, but I don't get off work until 8 pm pacific. I'll put a link here when it goes up. Oh, and FYI, I am only going to run this swap from Dec 1 until Dec 23, instead of the full month like usual. I am going out of town right after the holidays so will not be able to keep up with it.

Hello all! I have the second post of this thread updating with the information I have. If something does not like right please shoot me a pm. I have some other swap stuff to work on, but I will get feedback done for people that are green tonight. Also I hope to post pics soon of the AWESOME bags (yes that's plural) that Colorado Deb sent me!
10648  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Oh noes! Not Lye! on: November 28, 2008 02:17:46 PM
As far as lye goes, you could look at it another way:  Think of making a cake.  You wouldn't go eating a handful of flour, but when you mix it with other ingredients and add heat, you no longer have flour in its original form - you now have yourself a yummy cake.  You'd eat a cake, right?

... I am almost speechless at what a GREAT metaphor that is. Do

What she said! Awesome way to explain it queenofdiy!

Do a little experiment--wash your hands with a detergent bar, and also with a good handmade soap. Your skin will feel so much better with the handmade soap!

im going to have to agree w/ MareMare on that one, i have REALLY oily acne prone skin and i had been using a medicated scrub from walmart and found my love of making soap...now i use my handmade soap and my face is far less oily and i have less breakouts im hooked for life Smiley

Yay for soap! Kitch3ntools~do you put tree tea oil and betonite clay in it? I haven't made any face soap in a while but that's what I like in mine!
