1  Star Advent Calendar in Winter Holidays by daina on: December 13, 2008 12:52:10 PM
I am making quite a few of these and one is finally all the way done!!!!! Each Calendar has 25 pockets (all a different Christmas fabric. 25 stars made from felt or wood and paint, all different and 25 different buttons on each tree. They really are cute. Since this is the first one finished, a few things have been altered, but this is the general idea.

sorry about the glare and blur, but my skills are lacking lately..

and here is one with just the buttons, no stars

The hubby did the wooden painted stars I did the felt and the sewing n such.

Thanks to MonkeyThumb and Gizmonic for the buttons, wouldn't have been possible without them:)

2  Tee Shirt Embroideries - Pic Obese! Andrea Zuill Patterns in Needlework: Completed Projects by daina on: December 11, 2008 06:10:01 PM
So, for Christmas Presents for the little kids in the famil (like 18 cousins, but we only do things for the ones under ten) I embroidered Tee-shirts from Wal-mart. I love these tees and actually believe I'm getting good at this:) These are all free patterns from Andrea Zuills Blog (Thanks Andrea!!!!!!!!!)

The first is the Unicorn and Pegasus. This one is for a six year old little girl and she loves these fantastical creatures! I had don a tee with the unicorn on it before, but this was my first time with the pegasus.

The Second is The Penguin on a light pink tee. My first time with metallic floss (the fuzzies on the hat) and I wasn't too upset with it. i'll use it again. Plus the stem stitch on that hat, turned out great. i'm very pleased with that. This is for a two year old little girl.

The Third is the Birds from Andrea. This is my fave, and again, i think I'm getting kinda good. Lots of little French knots and the entire flower stem is done in stem stitch. I really love this one, and if it fit me, i would probably consider keeping it. This one is for a 10 year old little girl and is on a light blue tee.

The shiny parts of the tees is the water soluable stabilizer that will be washed away when i wash them....
I hope they are well received, because if I had a little girl, I would def be making tons of these for her!!!!
As always, please feel free to give suggestions!

3  Toddler Aprons and Pot Holders in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by daina on: December 03, 2008 03:25:57 PM
I made these for two little girls that I adore. Their Mom and Dad are getting them a play kitchen for Christmas, so this is what they're getting from Aunt Daina:)
Both Aprons are reversible and the potholders are made with insulbrite, so they'll actually be able to handle hot stuff when helping Mom. The potholders are my first attempt at ANYTHING with batting, my machine didn't like it much, but I think I got the hang of it:) I can't wait to get pictures of the girls in their new aprons:)
the two sets of potholders

and the aprons

The fairies are for the two year old and the butterflies are for the four year old. Do you think they will like them? Do you think Mom and Dad will be pleased? I like them alot, but I don't have girls, so I think I just love making pink stuff:)

4  Wooden Baby Rattle in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by daina on: November 19, 2008 05:56:27 AM
Hi! This was made by my hubby. He makes these alot as gifts and each is different and awesome! This is the first one I've posted though:) This is made on a lathe with one solid piece of wood. He uses carving tools to make the shape and the rings. Then he sands it and uses tung oil to finish it, since it won't hurt the baby who will be chewing on it. These are just so cool. I love the stuff my husband makes!!

5  YAY!!Bella Bunny Pattern "Bunny" in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by daina on: November 05, 2008 06:15:53 AM
So, I got the "Bella Bunny" pattern from SeeMellySew. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!
The solid fabric is a red flannel and the pattern is yellow cotton with ladybugs. The face is a yellow felt. It probably took a total of about four hours for me to make, but I'm slow and I hate turning and stuffing, but this was pretty easy!
I know it isn't very boyish, but I couldn't help myself, and when michael saw him, he had to have him:) I love my son!!!!
Muchael named him "Bunny" My son is very original. I got up this morning and Bunny was laying in Michaels bed and I told him I needed to take pictures and he almost cried. he said Bunny was tired.
Bunny's days will be spent avoiding the wrath of the three year old and being a cuddle bunny during naps and bed times....sounds like a hard life:)
The bunny, trying to figure out a way to her friends....

The side of Bunny, He sits on his own with the help of his tail:)

And a pic of the torture..

Hope you enjoy!@!!!

So, i got this idea from the book Pretty Little Pincushions. I LOVE this book. Anyway, I started it and didn't read the instructions all the way through, so I left half of it off. it's missing the eyelids and eyelashes. It's my first time doing a bottlecap pincushion too, sooooooo tiny and sooooooo fun!!!I will def be doing a lot more of these, i'll even try to do it the right way next time:)

Thanks for looking!!

7  Re: Star ornaments for advent calendars in Winter Holidays by daina on: November 03, 2008 06:05:09 AM
More stars! I did nine this weekend and they are getting easier and more fun!! i wanted to bring up the fact that these are supposed to be a bit of a hodge podge, so that is intended:)
the yellow one with the orange flower is my first attemp at needle felting. Well, i think it's still considered needle felting,  I used craft felt as the base and needle felted craft felt to it. No wool or wool fibers, but it turned out really great (IMO). If you wanna see more pics or individual pics, go to my flickr, but you have to add me as a contact, cause they're hidden from my family:)

Here's my flickr profile

These are quite addictive (although I think most crafting is:)
I did do the chalk thing. unfortunately, i think my original template is wonky, so all those stars are wonky, oh well, adds to the character, I'll make sure the tree they will be hanging on will be wonky too:)

One I made last night. I like the way the beads ended up on this one, but it took awhile, so I think each individual calendar will only get one of these:)

9  Star ornaments for advent calendars in Winter Holidays by daina on: October 28, 2008 08:04:47 AM
OK. Making advent calendars and making stars for the ornaments. Right now, I'm just trying out different techniques and this is my first time ever working with beads or sequins, so bear with me...
My first star, will def NOT be using this many beads or sequins again

Second one. i like this one a lot better. But the star points are difficult. Monkeythumb already suggested tring rounded corner stars....that's the next one. But I do like this one!

This is one I did last night and it took very little time. I used a sizzix paddle punch to make the tree. One bead and one sequin for the star and this one is tiny!! (the other two are about two inches. This one is the size of a quarter. I can't find it right now, the boy probably took it and put it wher it "belongs" heck if I know where that is though Huh

This christmas is all about using stuff I already have for gifts, so this is just the beginning:)

Let me know if you have any other pointers on the stars or mass producing...I can use all the help i can get:)
