Nice job!  Simplicty patterns always run a bit big.  They say I'm a size 12, but I always make a 6 or an 8.

Hi,
I think it looks very good.  I agree that since the sleeves don't fit you should just leave them off.  The dress looks just as good without them.

As far as making the muslin wearable, and this could just be from my computer screen, the gingham makes an odd visual effect over the bust because of the princess seam.  If it were me, I would put some trim over it to break it up.
