11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / SITE FOR GLUE ADVICE on: February 26, 2004 05:51:10 PM
This isn't a DIY site, it's not a craft site...but I guess Ms. Admin. will move it if need be. The site is called www.thistothat.com a wonderful site that exists "because people have a need to glue things to other things". I'm always trying to figure out stuff like "how to stick porcelain to astro-turf" and other improbable mixes, and there's a dandy little gizmo on the front page of this site where you punch in two different materials, hit "enter", and the kind of adhesive you should use to get them to stick together comes up! They have a bunch of fun stuff on the site, like trivia, the site's "philosophy"  Huh, and even a "Glue o' the Month".  (sorry, gang, no centrefold. teehee) To top it all off, the site's Canadian, eh?  Wink
I participated in the Secret Valentino swap and Craftsters seem to enjoy swapping stuff. I am interested in starting a Craftster "mail art" circle. It's pretty straight forward -- if you're interested in participating it just involves swapping a single piece of whatever: collages, postcards, prints, photos, zines: basically -- anything you've made goes (it's usually 2D and made from paper in order to keep the postage costs down) -- anyway, you swap with another person on the list and they send you something back. You can exchange stuff however often the group wants to...monthly, quarterly, etc. Once you get a few people on the list and start a regular "swap", you collect quit a few interesting "pieces". It's great to find something cool in your mailbox (as opposed to bills or invoices!). Anyway, email or i.m. me for more info. if you're interested.  Smiley
13  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / HOW TO SAVE PDF FILES on: February 21, 2004 09:51:58 AM
I have no idea where to put this  Huh but it was a real life-saver for me. Lots of patterns and stuff are in Adobe Reader. There used to be a little disc icon on earlier versions of the Reader software and you could press that and save the .pdf file to your hard drive. The most recent Adobe Reader no longer features any "save file" function and I could not figure out how to save the files. Finally got the info!! (after many, many searches) Go to the link where it says you can download the .pdf file, do NOT click on the link, instead, right-click on it and (in Internet Explorer) select "save target as..." from the options in order to save the file to your hard drive! I don't know if anyone else will find this useful. Thought I'd post it just in case.  Wink
14  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / HELP! HAS ANYBODY MADE FONTS? on: February 10, 2004 06:59:27 AM
I finally got a copy of font-making software (yippee!) called TypeTool. It's supposed to be "for beginners" but it has a 300-page manual! The on-line tutorials say you can whip out a font in "5 minutes". I must be missing something (...hums "if I only had a brain...) Anybody have any experience or ideas? Thanks.
15  CANADA / Ontario / WANT TO START RECYLE FOR THE ARTS PROJECT on: January 16, 2004 07:52:21 AM
I was recently in New Orleans and visited their "Recycle for The Arts" Project. I would like to start a similar project in SW Ontario but first would like to research similar "recyle for the arts" projects in the U.S., U.K. and/or Canada. If anyone has participated in a project such as this, or has one in their area and would like to share information, or is aware of any web resources worth checking out, I'd really appreciate it if you could take a sec. to let me know. Thanks so much. (This site is kind of a virtual "recycle for the arts" project in itself -- it totally rocks and the people are amazing!!)   Cool
16  CANADA / Ontario / ANYONE FROM SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO? on: January 15, 2004 07:00:58 AM
Hi. Just wanted to know if there's anyone from Southwestern Ontario that hangs out on this site? (newbie: hope it's okay to ask that-- looking to swap info. re: local craft suppliers)
