Here's the tutorial for the shirt:

I'm not going to bother with making a tutorial for the pink dress, because its made the same as the purple one, minus the gathers in the front.  Instead, it has two folds (are those called princess folds?) underneath the boobs, to make it fitted.

I LOVE them! especially the first dress!  I never thought of using the shirts you get at michaels for recons; i get to michaels more than i get to thrift stores - thanks for the tutorial!

I liked using the Michaels shirts cause at $3 (when on sale) they're similarly priced to many shirts at the thrift stores.  And they're bright and new.  I found that many thrift stores where I go had faded shirts (expected, since they ARE used Smiley)

I don't know the same use of fabric will fit for others as well.  I'm fairly small, about 5'2" and as you can see from the pictures, not all that skinny nor 'big boned'.  The main issue with fabric would be the sleeves fitting around your chest.  I'm small chested, so that wasnt an issue for me.  But if you're larger, 2 shirts may be needed, as this dress used up the entire XL shirt.

Michaels was having their $3 tshirt sale, so I picked up 4 extra large shirts.  I've only used 3 so far, so here's the results!!
(The duck is covering my face cause in every single picture I had the stupidest expression :S )
Original Tshirt:

Each piece is made of one tshirt.  For the dresses, the bust part was made out of the sleeves of the shirt, and the skirt part was the rest.  Up close the seams kinda suck.  I've never had any formal lessons for sewing, and the only things before this that I've made have been flannel pj pants.
comments and suggestions very very welcome!

one last thing, I'd like to thank everyone who posted their finished projects!!!  I got the inspiration to make these from you guys!
In fact, my next project involves a hideous thrift store find and the addition of a zipper... wish me luck!

extra info, since some questions have been raised about what size shirt to use.  I'm 5'2" and ~115 lbs, and I used XL shirts.  If you want the skirt part to be more flowy, use a wider shirt.

I love seeing everyone's creations!
