2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: The five senses... on: February 07, 2008 10:22:16 PM
You all have such wonderful ideas! I can think of so many things now that I want to give him!

I realized that since I'm keeping this simple, and there isnt much time left, I'm not going to do the "five senses". I'm going to save that for the anniversary, and for V-Day I'm going to give him 4 gifts, labeled: "A little sugar...", "A little spice...", "A little naughty...", and "A little nice..."
The sugar will be the home made chocolates, the spice will be the cologne, the nice will be a little stuffed turtle, and the naughty is a secret.  Roll Eyes

I loved the ideas of the music box and pictures so much though, and I think that for the anniversary I'll make a momento music box that plays "You are my sunshine" and put a pic of us inside. But that's another project...

...Now, does anyone have an AWESOME pattern for an itty bitty cute little turtle? All I can find are crochet patterns, which don't work for me. Help?
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: "I Don't Believe In Valentine's Day But I Still Love You" Gift on: February 05, 2008 10:18:47 PM
Instead of just a "one time package" you could make him a candy jar  and put the candy inside, and when it runs out, he can use it again and again to refill with peppermint patties! its the gift that keeps on giving!

OHOHOH! Maaaaybe, you could paint some kind of "LOVE-O-METER" on the jar and fill it with candy... but I dont know where you could go with that because of course he will eat the candy and it wont always be full of "love". IDK, random idea.

Maybe you could buy a big glass mason jar or something else decorative (cheap at the flea market, garage sales, walmart, or thrift/antique stores), and if youre like me, youve already got them laying around. Perhaps decorate with something blue and pilot-themed?

Also: I am a fellow mint-lover, and if you cant get the york peppermint things cheap enough, there are always andes chocolates, dinner mints, milky way mints (or was it three musketeers?) or those little pastel colored things that are basically peppermint patties in a gumball shape (cant remember what theyre called!).
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / The five senses... on: January 30, 2008 11:54:02 PM
This year, I want to do a "five senses" themed valentine's day for the boyfriend. Not too overboard, considering his birthday is only a week after (the 22nd) and mines a week after that (the 28th) and the anniversary is about a month after THAT (april 2nd)! Whew! Needless to say, v day hasn't been a huge thing in the past, and I don't intend on making it into one.
I want to give him 5 SMALL gifts, each dealing with one of the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. BUT I NEED SOME HELP! Here's what I've got so far:

Smell - a small bottle (only about 7 bucks) of cologne that he liked from the mall.
Taste - making him some chocolates that I already know he loves.

Here's what I DONT have:

Touch - I want to make something he can hold, something that is primarily cool to feel/touch. I'm thinking of sewing him a little stuffed turtle (he loves turtles!) with a heart on its back or something.
Sight - This should be easy enough, I just haven't quite brainstormed enough. I will probably use photographs somehow.
Sound - The most difficult! I have NO ideas coming to mind for this. I really don't want to make him a CD/tape with music on it. BUT I am open to somehow using the song "Happy Together" by (coincidentally) The Turtles.

So, any ideas for touch, sight, and sound? I'd appreciate it!

Some quick info:
- We have been together for nearly 3 years
- I cannot knit or crochet
- Sadly, the only musical instrument I play is clarinet, which doesn't help.
- He (John) is the very romantic and sappy type, but on the outside, he's a "manly man" (sports, fixing things, hairy, gassy, etc.)

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: drink umbrellas + ikea lantern = lamp! on: April 27, 2007 08:53:06 AM
very cool lamp, im definetly going to try this.

and maybe i missed it if someone made this suggestion but...
since it seems very awkward/difficult/time consuming to glue or tape or put little clay balls on the inside, why not just put little drops of glue on the underside of the umbrella's paper part, and glue it to the outside of the lantern that it touches? of course, you wouldnt be able to get them back off, but if youre worried about saving the lamp you probably shouldnt poke dozens of tiny holes in it in the first place.

might i ask what kind of paint you use?
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / silver charm bracelets on: November 10, 2005 04:16:56 PM
I can't imagine that this HASN'T been posted somewhere before, but I just can't find the answer to my question.
Where should I buy silver charm bracelets that I can add to? I've seen them at jewelry stores and stuff, but they're pretty expensive for one bracelet. Can I buy them wholesale? Where do you gals shop?
Also, I have the same question about earrling chains (the thin link chains to put on the earring hook that can be added to with jump rings). Where do you get those?
I'm looking for cheap options, as always!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / crochet flip flops? on: May 02, 2005 01:50:55 PM
I saw these at JCPenny but they are like 30 bucks, which I dont have because prom makes people poor Sad

heres a close-up of the crochet:

I've never done crochet before and was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a pattern that turns out with this netted look, because I have some plain brown sandals I want to turn into these. Also, what kind of yarn (i guess) should I use? It actually looks more like embroidery floss to me Undecided
