1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knitting Kits on: May 11, 2007 10:23:09 AM
Now that I think about it, I've actually purchased quite a few kits for purses.  It's nice to have all the supplies included and not have to worry about it:  Yarns, handles, embellishments, closures, and pattern.  I also sometimes purchase scarf or hat kits to give to other knitters as gifts.  I've only purchased a sweater kit once, but I do like the idea for fair isle or other colorwork so that I don't have to hunt for the proper number of skeins in each color and make sure they're matching dye lots.

It's not a "mistake."  You're simply knitting in the combined method, as several others mentioned here.  There are lots of knitters who use this method--you may want to read a bit about it so that you can see you're not a "freak," but merely using another variation.  If it's comfortable for you and you like the results, roll with it!

Fabulous job, and it does look stunning on you!  This one is on my to-do list as well...as soon as I finish my Simple Knitted Bodice from Stitch Diva.

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What's up with Noro Yarn addicts/crazies? on: April 26, 2007 09:48:49 AM
i think the #1 reason i love Noro Kureyon is that its a calling-card for handknit items.  i can usually recognize Noro on sight, and that immediately identifies that person either as a knitter, or a friend of a knitter Smiley Smiley Smiley

I got a bag of Noro in the mail the other day.  It was lying on the couch when my borfriend walked in.  He immediately remarked, "Is that Noro?" quickly followed by, "oh god, I know the yarn brands!"

I should be finished with the body tonight.  I'm looking forward to finishing those long sections of plain stockinette!

I was thinking maybe a lightweight cotton jersey fabric in a solid color for the lining, but I think flannel is a good idea too.  I'll probably try to match the fabric to whatever color I choose for the crochet border to give it some uniformity.  I'm sure it'll be a huge PIA to do, but I think it would look nice and would be much more functional that way.  I only have two squares done so far, so I'm just conceptualizing at this point.  Wink

I calmly responded, "a noose."

That's classic!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: How to get knitting time and husband time?? Ideas?? on: April 24, 2007 07:46:48 AM
My boyfriend will generally just dive in when he wants attention, which usually leaves me somewhat panicked, wondering whether any stitches were dropped in the process.  I usually just let him snuggle, though, because I don't want him to be discouraged from being affectionate!   Wink

I knit on the metro every day, and I'm rarely approached bothered by anyone.  Maybe it's just the culture of this city, but commuters don't interact very much here.  Tourists are usually the only ones conversing on the train.  Headphones are definitely a good way to get *most* people to leave you alone, most of the time.

I finished a few squares for this over the weekend.  The yarn softens considerably with washing and blocking (I wet blocked versus steaming and liked the results), but I still find it to be a fairly rough final product.  I'm actually thinking of lining my blanket when it's complete to make it a bit more inviting and snuggly.
