1  macro challenge - squiggle and sunshine in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by jessimocha on: April 22, 2008 07:23:25 AM
hi all! this is my entry for the macro photo challenge - https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=240738.0

i know there are already a few photos of cats, and i know i have other macro photos to dig through, but since i just took this one the other day and it's already on my computer (not my boyfriend's) i figured, i might as well use it. plus i can show off one of my gorgeous kitties. Cheesy

squiggle in the sunshine!

isn't she cute Wink

and this next photo is NOT FOR THE CHALLENGE. Smiley i just really liked it and wanted to share. i would have used it for the challenge, but i'm not 100% sure if i took it or if my boyfriend did (we share our camera and take a lot of pictures of the same things)

avocado plant:

thanks for looking, don't forget to vote! and check out all the entries, they're all gorgeous Cheesy

2  Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ MAR in Crochetalongs by jessimocha on: March 26, 2008 09:45:51 AM
well i finally got one of my march square's done. for some reason this has been the month of forgetting about the 12" squares, and deciding to plan and start more crochet projects than i can handle Cheesy

so i did get one done. but not two. not yet. i'm not sure if i want to do this pattern again or do another one. this was a nice pattern, it was relatively easy, a nice finished square too, but i found myself getting bored of it by the end. which is why it took so long to get it done (i had most of it done the first week of march!)

excuse the cat hair! and the colour is totally way off.

and i would love to see shots of everyone's squares together! especially those of you who have done 10! that's incredible!

here are all mine together so far, in bad light, complete with cat butt:

gatsbygirl, i love your colours so much! and your stitches are all so even and clean looking! now i wanna make another blanket out of brown and pink Cheesy

eliea, i really like your march square, and i hope hope hope you find your january one!

i love that there are so many new joinees!

ok, here are my two february squares

cross my heart:

i wanted it to look more like a clover than hearts. i'm going to start another afghan (hopefully soon) for my boyfriend's dad's wedding gift, and there are probably going to be many heart squares in it, so.. clover. Smiley

and a filler:

really washed out colours, but it's just the light. also, don't mind the cat hair Cheesy

i've been spending the last few weeks getting my new turtle tank all set up, so i've totally been ignoring this CAL. and all my crocheting. but now little craig's all set up in his new home, so back to the squares it is Tongue

4  a few new necklaces - fossil stones? (img lots) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by jessimocha on: February 17, 2008 01:17:58 PM
the other night i just happened to be walking past the bead store and when i went in, not really intending on buying anything, i found these amazing stones!  they have fossils on them, like when you find rocks with fossils on the beach. Cheesy

(sorry about the cat hair Cheesy )

made with purplish shell beads

and the other one - oranges!

with matching bracelet. made with faux pearls, i think?

isn't it gorgeous? i love how it looks like paisley Smiley

this is another necklace i made, i can't remember what the stone is called

and this bracelet matches the previous necklace as well as the first fossil one

hooray! i made the last necklace i posted first, and loved that it could go with basically anything, so i made the darker fossil one for the same reason and i love them all!

5  me and my boyfriend - in doll form in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by jessimocha on: February 01, 2008 09:44:49 AM
so we have this friend, kristy, who we love a crapton of a lot. and she loves my boyfriend and i just the same. she's now working on cruise lines in the carribean, making us jealous in our toronto snow storms.

nevertheless, she's leaving now for 5 months and that's a long time for us to go without seeing her, or her seeing us. so i made her some dolls of us so it's like we're there with her Smiley

so this is todd, the boy:

and his face and hair and shirt

and this is me:

and my curly hair:

i made these pretty quick, and just glue gunned the hair on. they were made pretty sloppily, to be honest, but she loved them. i didn't get a picture of them side by side, but they're proportionately the right height to each other (my bf's a giant at 6'5" and i come up to his chin)

if anyone wants to know how i did the curly hair: i had an unfinished crochet project sitting around for a year and when i frogged it, the yarn retained the curlies! yay

hope you like 'em! Cheesy

6  Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ FEB in Crochetalongs by jessimocha on: February 01, 2008 09:23:01 AM
okay! starting today, i'm checking this thread every day! i've been too busy to do that, but man i still can't get over how fast this thing grows Cheesy

now that it's february, i suppose i should post my squares (took me awhile to get new batteries for my camera), so jennbrad, i'm with you! (gorgeous colour, by the way)

they're both done in bernat softee chunky. dark burgundy and something. i think i'm going to use the burgundy throughout, and other colours to pop. february's square looks like it'll be good for that!

7  stripes and spots my new craft journal! in CHALLENGE 24 ENTRIES by jessimocha on: February 01, 2008 09:14:31 AM
hello! this is my first ever entry in a challenge. my biggest resolution for this year is to craft more. the biggest obstacles in the way of my crafting, is that i'm terribly unorganized and lose track of projects, and that i can't manage my time at all. so i was already planning to make a craft journal, to plan and keep track of every project i do, and this challenge was the perfect thing to kick my butt into action. Cheesy

i really wanted this to be more interesting than blank pages, so it was also the perfect opportunity to try out some new photoshop brushes i downloaded recently Smiley

onto the photos!

i ended up making two books, one as the main craft planner/calendar/log, and the other small one as a portable book for ideas, material/shopping lists, doodling, etc

a page inside the little one:

the inside front cover and first page of the main journal:

another page, and how it opens

back cover:

the ribbon is what holds the whole thing together. i didn't want to deal with punching a lot of holes through the book board for sewing, and i wanted a way to add pages if and when i have to, so hole punch and ribbon it was Smiley

here are what the pages all look like. i don't want to overload this thread, so i'll just use thumbnails

inspiration and ideas:

materials needed

project ideas

completed projects (this will act as a table of contents as well as a quick reference list)

and finally project pages (these are the main bulk of the book)

there are also calendar pages for a full year, one of which you can see in one of the above photos. if anyone wants to know what's on each page and they can't read it, just lemme know.

ok, there it is! i had a lot of fun with this challenge, and thank you to leah for giving me the motivation i needed! Cheesy

i can't wait to see everyone else's entries! don't forget to vote! Smiley

8  fancy necklaces for gifts (img tubbo) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by jessimocha on: December 12, 2007 06:19:59 PM
these are half of the gifts for my grandma, mom and sister (they're also getting crocheted slippers/scarves)

because they were gifts, it meant i got to go to the fancier half of arton beads and buy more expensive stones than normal (i usually just stick to glass, wood, etc). yay!

for my mom, who is a hippy and loves earth tones, and is allergic to metal (the clasp thingies are actually plastic):

i used an amazonite stone and some shell beads/stones

and how it hangs:

this is for ma gramma:

i haven't seen my g-ma in years and don't know her tastes very well so i really hope she likes this. it's a fire jade** jasper stone and some kinda shiny beads Smiley

and how it hangs:

and for my little sister:

she *loves* blue, and i just got her into jewelery making as well so i think she'll like it a lot. the flower is made from shell, and there are fresh water pearls on the danglies.

and how it hangs:

and all of them together in their pretty little boxes:

hooray! sorry about all the photos, these are definitely the nicest pieces i've made yet and i'm super proud Cheesy this is also just after i discovered the macro setting on my camera.. i love taking jewelery photos now!

**ETA: i just looked up fire jade and it doesn't look anything like this.. maybe this stone was in the fire jade box? if anyone knows what that stone is, please let me know Smiley thanks darkdaughter!

please let me know what you think!

i recently got these back from that friend, so i thought i would share the amazing things you can do with a simple program Cheesy

the first, i asked a friend for an animal (coyote) and another friend for a place (victorian england)

this is the view of york university from my apartment on a rainy day

this one uses a quote from cowboy bebop

and here are some stick people, but i love the colours

let me know what you think! Cheesy
