11  Re: OTT October Holidays Edition 3 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by tabzilla on: November 05, 2011 08:38:25 AM
Okay, my partner has received but is unable to upload photos at the moment.  I took these with my cell phone, but I've cleaned them up as best I can with Picnik.

I made her a tiny polymer clay sugar skull.  I think it wound up being about 2 inches long and maybe an inch and a half wide.

Front view:

Those black things at the temples are roses, which get really fiddly at that size.  They didn't photograph too well, unfortunately.  I decided to go with outlines for the flowers on the cheekbones and the sides.

Side view:

You can see the e creeping in from the back...

Back view:

...because I wrote her name there! This would not have worked if her name was much longer.

I had a good time making it, and I'm glad she seemed to like it. Smiley

I have to say, all the crafts I've seen here are awesome! I would have been thrilled to get any of them.  You guys are all so skilled!

12  Re: Hair Accessories Swap in The Swap Gallery by tabzilla on: August 08, 2011 05:40:30 PM
Here are some more pretty things!  I received today from Geniale, formerly Burgz, and she totally spoiled me:

Two gorgeous ribbon hair clips (I love the lace, and that blue colour is divine)

Two feather hair clips (isn't the little ladybug ADORABLE? And the colours didn't come out quite true to life, but the green/orange/black combo is super earthy and lovely and a little bit shiny)

Two crochet clips and four plain sparkly gold ones (the burgundy ribbon on the larger clip is fabulous, and the button on the smaller one is perfect)

One super cool feather barrette with gems and a little lacy ribbon (haha, you were right - pretty similar to the one I sent you!)

A yellow feather extension that I'm going to put in for my birthday on Saturday, a yellow crocheted scrunchie that will be perfect for running around on weekends, and two hair wraps! I had to look up how to use them, but they are very sophisticated looking in! (I'm afraid the kitten thinks they're toys, though - gotta keep them somewhere he can't get.)

The beads on the hair wraps are so nice that I had to get a better shot of them - wooden beads with flowers, and silver beads with some little turquoise gems set into the middle one.

I am beyond thrilled with my package!  Thank you for being my swap partner, Geniale! Tu es vraiment gniale, comme ton nom d'affichage!

13  An Ood? How Ood! in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by tabzilla on: May 26, 2011 10:26:58 AM
So, newsflash: my favourite creatures in the Doctor Who universe are the Ood.  I love their squishy tentacled faces! And when my partner for the One Tiny Doctor Who Thing swap mentioned that she liked them too, well... I couldn't resist!
She mentioned that she was interested in jewellery, so I went hunting around the internet to find some ideas.  I wanted to do something a little more understated than a big blue box on a chain.  I found this Etsy post, which was my inspiration! And thus the Ood pendant was born!

This photo courtesy of my partner:

My camera skills (and hands) have been a little shaky, so the detail isn't great in these:

I originally made it out of silver Sculpey, but decided that looked too cheap. So I picked up a tube of shiny silver acrylic paint, mixed a little black in there, and got what I think is a decent metallic-looking colour.

The translator orb (pearl) is a bead I had in my stash, and the eyes are little black gems I salvaged from a pair of earrings I never wear.

14  Re: One Tiny Doctor Who Thing - Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by tabzilla on: May 20, 2011 06:22:02 PM
Nearly went mad looking for a USB cable for my digital camera... completely forgot that it stores images on an SD card, which my computer can read. DUR!

And now for some photos of my wonderful loot from dustyfro!  I apologize for the quality - I've been really shaky lately, and I don't have a tripod or anything.  If you have better photos, dustyfro, please go ahead and post them!

I opened my package to find a TARDIS!

But imagine my shock and horror upon opening the tin - the TARDIS was full of villains! Oh nooooo!

There was even a Dalek, the most terrible of all the Doctor's enemies!

Luckily, dustyfro included some things to help me out of this jam.  I have a psychic paper needle book

which I used to get the Dalek on my side - it's promised to EXTERMINATE my clumsy sewing injuries.

I also received a sonic seam ripper for when I'm in a really tight spot,

and I have my favourite (new) companion and my favourite alien species to help me hold things together!

I opened the package at work with my with my Whovian boss, and she is quite jealous.  Everything is completely brilliant and fantastic and double cool with knobs, I love my time traveller's sewing kit! Thank you so much, dustyfro! It has been awesome swapping with you. Cheesy

(Oh yes, the Matt Smith note card was also excellent.)

15  Jar to Dalek - YOUR SNACK CRAVINGS WILL BE EX-TER-MIN-A-TED. in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by tabzilla on: July 22, 2010 06:58:29 AM
I think I've got this in the right place here... I tend to do more swapping than posting, but I'm really happy with how well this turned out.
For the One Tiny Doctor Who Thing swap, my partner (aethelberga) mentioned that the Daleks are her favourite villains.  And when I saw a small lidded jar at the store, something clicked - and thus the Dalek jar was born!
Here's a pre-baking picture.  Don't mind the messy kitchen.  I was so worried that something was going to go wrong!

Here, you can see that it's a jar on the inside.  I did a thin layer of silver Sculpey around the whole base of the jar so that the insides would be silver.

And here's one last picture, after baking and glaze.

The lights on the top are LEDs scavenged from somewhere or other in my stash, and the metal bits are recycled from the latch-type mechanism that originally held the jar closed.  Oh yeah, and the title is from my swap partner.  She expressed her intentions to fill it with smarties or jelly babies.  I can't think of a better thing to put inside a Dalek! Sugary candy happiness. Maybe they wouldn't be the jerks of the universe if they got a sugar rush on once in a while.

Okay, here he is in all his Ood-y gloriousness!

See how he has a little cotton ball for a translator orb? See his little pink tentacle face? See how soft and cuddly he is? (Well, probably not, but take my word here.) I love it!

17  Re: Friendship Bracelet Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by tabzilla on: April 22, 2010 07:19:12 AM
All right, I have received from everyone and I am blown away!
This is the first one I got, from missriss.  Look at the beads, aren't they lovely?

And this one is a woven bracelet from MiLady, so cool! I love how smooth it is.

And here is the one from donnevita, holy cow!  What an intricate pattern, and she managed to find such vibrant colours.

I also got a nice minty lip balm with donnevita's bracelet, it's keeping my lips nice and fresh. Smiley

I just want to thank all of my partners, you guys made me some awesome friendship bracelets!  I hope you enjoy yours as much as I love these.

18  Re: Fill a mug round 5 gallery in The Swap Gallery by tabzilla on: February 10, 2010 11:56:04 AM
Finally, I have found my camera and can post pictures of my stuff from deftann!
First, a shot of everything together:

Please disregard fluffy cat legs.  This is actually not everything - you see only one bar of soap there because I absolutely could not resist using the other one and it is not in any state to be photographed. As for drinkables, there are two big bags of loose leaf tea (I really cannot wait to try the banana walnut, it smells like my grandma's baking) and some pre-bagged tea (the hibiscus smells especially sweet and calming).
And check out this awesome mug!

It comes with a lid and a strainer so that I can enjoy my loose-leaf tea free of tea bits and cat fur!  I love it!
Here's a close-up of the untouched soap:

They both smell delicious, and the little nubblies make it like a delightful cleansing massage. The soap I'm using right now also has little bits in it (sorry, I have no clue about soapmaking) and they exfoliate like nobody's business.  I am really looking forward to showers these days. Cheesy
Oh, and check out this mug cosy!

The fabric is perfect, the colour combination brightens my day. And I love the way the velcro is laid out, so it can fit cups that are a little bigger or smaller.
And as a (future) librarian, I can honestly say I squealed with excitement when I saw this baby:

It looks like a little book! I love it!  Deftann used this lovely velvety material for the "cover", and it is good to touch and also means I can find it easily in my bag.  Oh, wait - what's on the inside?

TEA!  It's a tea wallet!  The white fabric makes it look extra book-y, and the splash of floral colour makes it interesting.  I am so delighted with this!
I am also very happy with the apron, which you saw everything laid out on in the first picture.  There is a long skinny pocket for utensils, and a bigger pocket for my hands anything else I might need.  And the colours! Deftann made absolutely perfect fabric choices.  I'm really looking forward to using the apron, just as soon as I can get it away from Mr. Goatee.

Everyone else's packages have been fabulous too, but of course I think the one I got is the best. Wink

P.S. I appear to be having minor hosting issues with tinypic, try refreshing if some of the pictures don't show.
