1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: First socks? on: December 12, 2007 06:46:19 PM
I also learned how to knit socks using the Silver's sock class tutorial and found it very helpful.
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Grips on: November 07, 2007 02:32:34 PM
My friend is a crocheter and has these neat foam-rubber grips that she puts on her hooks. She's lost her last one and has no idea where to find them. They are almost the entire length of the hook. Any help would be much appreciated.

I love the afghan! Purchasing 21 balls of yarn scares me though. But cables are such a fun knit.

I really like Kaleidoscope, but I wish there was a picture of the whole sweater.

You could use this pattern:

Just change the colors where you want.

I'm going to have to take a second look at that pattern. I've noticed that Simply Soft does seem to make nice garments, despite its economical price.

Great job!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Fall 2007 Interweave Knits.... on: August 03, 2007 12:43:54 PM
I got mine yesterday. There are a few patterns that I am dying to try, but alas, I am nursing, so they will probably have to wait.

I have the bag on my to-knit list. I will probably use a DK weight cotton yarn though.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Vintage yarn- what to make? on: July 22, 2007 07:28:48 PM
Someone at church gave me all of her yarn today. It's "vintage acrylic" (Red heart super saver, brands of acrylic I don't recognize, Caron, etc.) She used it to make scarves and hats for the homeless, and lap blankets for the elderly. I'd like to continue that.

Can anyone recommend any good patterns for hats and scarves (or small blankets) that you really like? I'd like to do something other than miles of garter stitch.

Here is the haul:

For reference, the couch is 66 inches long and the pile of yarn is 12 inches high.

Could you do the edging in a lighter shade of the color that you did for the body? Or maybe a complimenting color?
