I was not quite impressed with the fabric when my sister bought the same and wanted an outfit in that. But i am glad to be proved wrong as the outftit looks so good on her! I guess the credit goes the designer here (ahem ...pat on my back Wink ) for the pattern chosen and the delicate details like gather at neckline in CF and center back to ensure the pleats are shown even more delicately along the bustline and then down the waist. and the decision to use grey cotton bias strip for neckline and a make a bow sure did pay off (I had to lose about 1/4 metre of fabric from a new grey cotton stash i had kept for making a kurta for self, guess i would have to make a sleeveless kurta for self now! Wink

26  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / @ cross roads at New Year! on: January 06, 2012 05:27:56 AM
Outfit made for self and worn on New Year's Day! Sister had gifted me this fabric for my last b'day (6 months back!) At last manged to sew an outfit for self using the same! played with grain to get the criss-cross pattern with yoke and bottom portion of the kameez! hence the name @ Cross-roads!

Features of the dress are

  • Yoke pattern
Criss-cross contrast pattern alignment at yoke and portion below the yoke (for which i cut the pattern in cross-grain!)
    Petal Sleeves

    Churidhaar pants
27  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Robot - ADITHI V2 on: January 03, 2012 11:51:50 PM
Every year during New Year's Eve, we have fancy dress in our Residential Colony and for this year i decided to turn my darling daughter into a Robot!

Hubby dearest did all the LED circuit work. Concept and other construction for the rest of the outfit was done by me

used cardborad for body and head; added LED circuit in them

Used plastic bottles were joined with wires and wrapped in silver gift wrap for hands

Fabric trousers with top layer of silver paper were used for legs

Old shoe boxes wrapped in gift box used for Shoes

She won the First Prize ! Yay!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to fellow Craftsters!

Thanks for all the lovely comments.

Self drafted pattern, I have used the Angarkha basic draft and tweaked it a bit (very little actually) to get the wrap dress draft. The angarkha tute is already available on my blog.

Bow at the back was a last minute addition, as i wasn't happy with the finish of the back neckline with bias straps criss-crossing, not so perfect, hence tried to camouflage it with a pretty bow, it worked!
