1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / making wallpaper into a triptych? on: September 20, 2006 08:12:24 PM
hi all!
my boyfriend and i just moved into a great new place, and we're trying to decide how to decorate our walls. call me cheesy, but i love kitschy landscape wallpaper. i fear we'll seriously damage our walls or otherwise hate the full-on wallpaper look, so i'm considering creating a triptych with the wallpaper by putting each strip of wallpaper on a seperate canvas. thoughts? here's the one we're considering.

2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / crocheted ball necklace patterns? on: September 26, 2005 06:59:30 PM

I'm seeing a lot of these crocheted ball necklaces and bracelets. And though I consider myself a fine crocheter, I can't for the life of my figure out how to crochet the ball shape. (Do you crochet the shape then stuff it? Or crochet around a bead?)

Here's what I'm thinking of. Any ideas?

the New York Times Sunday Style section confirms that crochet is hot, hot, hot. (sorry if anyone else already posted this -- i didn't see it.)

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / reusing yarn on: June 23, 2005 08:56:00 AM
I have decided to abandon a tank top project and reuse the yarn -- Mondial Splendid, which is 100 percent cotton. But what do I do? Simply unwind it, or should I wet it and let it dry? I'm sorry if this sounds really stupid, but I just don't know and couldn't find an answer in FAQ.
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / interweave knits cable shrug? on: June 08, 2005 10:09:05 PM
is anyone knitting this delightful pattern? (at bottom of first page)

i'd love to, but the yarn -- south west trading co's oasis -- is soooo expensive. around $15/ ball, and the pattern calls for about 5 balls. eek.
7  California / California: South / Visiting L.A. on: April 15, 2005 01:52:56 PM
Hi, I'm visiting LA in early May and I'm curious if anyone knows of any crafty events going on at that time. If not, are there any great shops that sell handmade wares? Or any little known museums? Basically, I'm looking for any suggestions from craftster folk. Thanks!
8  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / beginning gardening for a new couple on: April 12, 2005 08:12:28 AM
hi all -- for a wedding gift, i thought about getting my friends some kind of starter gardening kit, something that will help them grow flowers or herbs in pots. (they don't have a traditional backyard.) any suggestions of a good kit or starter set? thanks so much.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / finished object blues on: April 10, 2005 07:07:39 PM
arrgh. i just finished the suss design shrug, and it just doesn't look so hot. i re-did the seams a few times, but they still look rough. and some of the stitches are obviously wonky -- they didn't when i was knitting, mind you, but only when i tried it on. it's fine, but it's just not polished. and this is maybe the third finished object i've had in a row that just didn't turn out as planned.

so what have i been doing wrong?

i guess perhaps i'm not being careful subsituting yarns. and i am obviously not keeping my tension even. How can i fix this?

i guess i'm just venting and looking for support. oh darn.
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / smaller knit or crochet wedding gift? on: February 24, 2005 05:42:42 PM
