1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sewing Waterproof Fabric Questions on: May 27, 2010 03:09:44 PM
My application is for a medical situation.  I know about water-proof fabric, rubbing seam with wax and/or seam sealant.  But what fasteners can be used to make THOSE openings waterproof..... I assume velcro is like a sieve.

Check out having your dress custom made.  You will get exactly what you want and usually (but not always) for less than a ready made one.    I am a bridal seamstress and wonder why more brides don't consider this option.

I am a bridal seamstress.  The labor costs vary in different parts of the country, so you will have to phone several to get an idea of the cost per hour.  However, that won't tell you the final cost, as it depends on the style you select (which translates into the number of hours your seamstress will work) and the choice of fabric - the quality and price.   Having a dress custom made may not be your least expensive option, but it will fit without expensive alterations and it will be the dress of your dreams because you're the designer.

I'm a bridal seamstress and am surprised at the expectations of many clients.  Having your wedding gown or bridesmaid dresses sewn by a local seamstress may or may not be less expensive than buying a ready-made one.  The final price depends on so many factors including the style (hours of work for the seamstress) and the fabric choice (price and quality).  The advantage of having a dress made is that it will fit when complete and you will pay whatever you negotiated with your seamstress with NO ALTERATION fees, which are VERY expensive in a bridal boutique.  Also, you can have every feature in the dress you want, and none that you don't want.  You're the designer.

The Craft Cupboard, upstairs in the main building at the Forks has awesome crafts, made in Manitoba, every day all year.  Gifts for showers & weddings, Christmas gifts, Canadiana, etc.
