11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Gifts for RPGamers? on: November 24, 2007 06:06:08 AM
That's great! Thanks guys! I've definitely got more to work with now and am starting to pair up some of your ideas with specific people.

I did find one thing to make on my own - a puzzle box shaped like a knight crusader's tomb (not exactly D&D - but one of our gaming buddies has a big chivalry thing going). Anyway you could easily alter the symbols on the side and the figure on top to be almost anything, and I may go with something more gaming related. And it would be a sweet place to keep dice, figs, or whatever.

There are instructions here:

If you're at all handy, it's a much easier project to assemble than most puzzle boxes, as it's just 1/8 inch plywood cut into strips or squares with a few notches and glued together. No router or other complex tools or techniques.

Yay! I'll finally be able to give them each something different!

I'm trying to do as much handmade as possible this year, which I find easy enough for family, work friends, etc. But all my husbands friends are D&D or White Wolf fanatics, and I am tired of going the game shop gift certificate route.  We did dice bags one year... Um I seem to be running low on inspiration.

Any ideas?

OOh, I love this idea.  After 6 years, all the goodies we got when we married have started to disintegrate. Plus I've been wanting to make custom sheets and bedding for our big family bed. (Queen and twin mattresses together on a homemade wood frame)

I just have to find my fabric and I'll be on board for my very first craftalong. Yea!

You can affix the bling however you want and then coat with clear liquid acrylic resin. You may need to have some kind of mold to fit over the pacifier to get an even finish that completely covers your crystals.
You can get this stuff (http://www.delviesplastics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=DP&Category_Code=Casting_Resin
at Michael's and maybe some other craft stores as well as online.

It should give a nice, clear glossy finish - way better than the crappy looking plastic cap on those other paci's.
