1  Pen for my Father's Mail Man in Completed Projects by woodenpenworks on: June 17, 2010 12:36:10 PM
I had been fooling around with this layout for quite a while, but it just never finished. My Father asked if I would make something for the guy who delivers his mail, so that gave me a reason to go back one more time. I changed the solid border to a perforated border, which gave it a stampier look. I think I'm done

2  Fathers Day Pen in Completed Projects by woodenpenworks on: June 08, 2010 09:30:25 AM
I just put this pen together for my Father. He is a WWll Navy veteran, and received a Purple Heart at Guadalcanal.

3  Dragons Anyone? in Completed Projects by woodenpenworks on: July 02, 2009 10:48:48 AM
This is a laser engraved pen box that I have been working on for a while, and I think it is done. You can let me know. The trick is to get enough depth without the subject disappearing into the background.
I didn't draw the dragon. I wish I could draw like that. I only modified it for engraving.

4  Stamp Stamp Stamp in Completed Projects by woodenpenworks on: May 28, 2009 06:50:48 PM
I saw a quick tutorial for a pen coated with stamps, and though I would give it a try. Basically it as a decoupage project. I think the look is quite good. I collected stamps as a kid, so I really liked the outcome.

5  Decorative Pillow in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by woodenpenworks on: March 11, 2009 09:06:14 AM
This is a micro fiber pillow that I laser engraved with a Coat of Arms. I do a lot of wood and leather, but this was my first attempt at fabric. I have a few details that still need to be worked out, but overall, not too bad. It is nearly impossible to keep the pillow in focus because of the curvature of the top. That gave me some real fits. Like anything else you try, the next one should be right on the money.

6  Family Crest in Completed Projects by woodenpenworks on: February 20, 2009 05:35:46 AM
I made this as a Birthday Gift for a friend of mine. The wood is 7"x9" Alder.
I have been engraving some larger pieces lately. I posted one in the Wedding section of the forum the other day.
I like the way the Coat of arms looks at this size. It is a lot different than doing it on a pen. (That is where I usually engrave them) The Alder boards are made from glued up stock (as purchased) so there is variation between adjoining pieces. You can see that better in the closeup pic. Still, overall I think it looks ok

Engraved with an Epilog Laser. Artwork was done in CorelDrawX3

7  Isn't It Romantic in Weddings and Bridal Showers by woodenpenworks on: February 19, 2009 10:59:38 AM
I thought I would try a few Alder wood plaques on the laser. If you have seen any of my other posts, then you know I usually don't do anything larger than a pen box. This plaque is 7"x9"
These are the Crests for my family and my wife's family names. I added a scroll below with our first names and the year we were married. (...and yes, I am probably a bit older than most of you, but I never let a little thing like that stop me)
The photo makes the strips of wood appear to be very different color and tone. The real thing doesn't show as much variation.
I have an Epilog Laser that I use for my engraving. All of the art work is done with CorelDraw X3

8  Goldfish-Goldfish-Goldfish in Completed Projects by woodenpenworks on: February 06, 2009 02:01:15 PM
I like fancy Goldfish, so I have incorporated them into a number of my designs. The guys on this pen box are Ryukins. I hope you like it.

9  Be My Valentine in Valentine's Day by woodenpenworks on: January 10, 2009 10:28:00 AM
I designed this for Valentine's Day (I probably didn't need to say that). Since most of my engraving in the past was done on the pens, it seems funny to have all of this space to work with on the boxes. I try not to get carried away and start putting too much stuff in the design. The pen is engraved so that it looks like a carving.

10  Christmas gift for my grandson's Teacher in Completed Projects by woodenpenworks on: November 26, 2008 09:51:51 AM
I engraved this pen and pen box as a gift for my grandson's teacher. The artwork was done in Coreldraw and the engraving was done on an Epilog laser.
It took a few trial runs and modifications until I was happy with the 3d effect.
