21  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Preenie Clothes Lots-of-pics! on: March 05, 2008 07:38:12 PM
How cute - and what a great idea.  Preemie clothes is hard to find - especially cute stuff.  And 4 months...wow!  I'm 5 months right now so that just scares me to think about.  I hope the baby does well.

Very nice!  I just bought fabric for my first two slings last week.  I haven't made them yet because I haven't gotten the rings.  I think I read that you can buy them at farm/animal supply stores.  I live in a rural area so that isn't a problem for me.  I'll have to check out that site though.

My sister has a pouch and didn't like it much.  I know I'll be much more apt to wear the sling than she was - so much better than lugging around a punkin seat or stroller!

Oiy!!  So cute!!  I know what you mean about the rolled edge - I love love love it!!  My serger is a god-send  Alright, I seriously need to get some motivation to get back to my sewing room...it's been since...umm...October!  I haven't touched my sewing machines since I got done costuming my last play in October...
24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Simp 3739 - Mini Dress w/pleats - Cute? on: January 21, 2008 06:01:59 PM
Very cute!  I like the longest length but that's just my style!  I think I've used this pattern but I did a gather stitch rather than a pleat and I think the pleat works better.  I think my fabric was too thick as well.  It certainly made me look pregnant and now that I am...I can wear it!  Yay!

Good job!
25  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: sneak peak: red riding hood jacket/dress! on: October 22, 2007 06:57:49 PM
Very nice!  I hadn't looked at commercial patterns in awhile but I designed a jacket with a similar waist yesterday and hopefully will be making myself a coat if I can ever find the time!
Great job and very cute!
26  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / The Fantasticks...going to stage in 9 days!! on: October 22, 2007 06:49:20 PM
I'm finally finished!!
I have been working for the last three months on the costumes for my community theatre group's production of "The Fantasticks".  I was originally just asked to help plan the costumes but after one meeting, found out that one woman didn't know how to sew and the other woman was going through intensive cancer treatments...so I was on my own!  So, between working part-time, going to grad school full-time, and generally trying to have a life, I've been living on coffee...but I'm done!!
Here's a few pics from a rehearsal the other night...

Bellomy and El Gallo hamming it up
I made everything except the pants (scrub pants from my wedding costumes)

Hucklebee sittin' pretty
This entire outfit was made for this production as well.

My cast!!

Again, made this entire costume as well

Mortimer in his indian outfit (he's a pirate later-don't have a picture though)
Again, all but the pants made for the production

Henry with his tattered doublet
I made the shirt and added stuff to the pants and doublet to make them look worn and tattered without ruining the doublet (it belongs to my personal costume collection, not the company's)...not a great pic though

This is the least of what my costumes go through each night!  The poor guy has bruises from rehearsals...

Alright...soooo ready for time to sleep now that these are done...unfortunatly I have to be at dress rehearsal every night till we open next Thursday!

Thanks for looking!

Those are awesome!!  Snazzy pants!  I plan to use cloth diapers and I've done lots of research on the diapers but not on the trainers - I'd be interested in a tut as well!
28  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Peacock -> Giraffe dress on: September 04, 2007 07:42:47 AM
That is so freaking adorable!  I love peacocks and it's hard to do peacocks without being tacky - this is wonderful...and two dresses in one!
29  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Re: new McCalls costume patterns on: August 30, 2007 05:31:29 PM
Interesting...perhaps that is why Vogue doesn't seem to have anything new and awesome lately.  Even when they were on sale, I didn't buy any.  I used to like their stuff much more.

I try not to buy patterns much anymore just because I am working on my drafting skills and I'm working on a line of streetware...so obviously I'll be making my own patterns.

I agree that Simplicity costume patterns are cheesy, but if you take away the accessories, they look better than the newer McCalls.  If they would only use fabric that didn't look like it cost a dollar and bought it at Walmart, it would help things considerably.

it's my own pattern - very simple, but I'm not sure whether or not I am going to do a tut.
