22  Re: Jar of Whimsies 6 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by 1boy1girl1kitty2 on: October 07, 2009 09:25:06 PM
mom and dad picked up my package while they were in the states saturday but i just havnt been able to get to their place since then so i had mom put it in hubbys car while he was at work so it came home today!

the jar was a desktop trash can (which now houses all kinds of sewing bits)
here are the whimseys
toys and cars which the kids quickly snagged

erasers and stamps (shhh their are going to be stocking stuffers for the kids)

random animals and other bits

hair things

ribbons (already have hair bows in mind for these)

animal diaper pins (awesome cause we cloth diaper - or will when the baby comes)

whole lota buttons

pendants and other jewelery things

my faves

i've never seen these little altoids before (love the wintergreen) and the little pirate guy is our new robber in the settlers of catan board game (previous robber died an unfortunate death)

my partner rec'd forever ago but hasnt posted pics yet so i'm posting my few quickie pics. i was so excited to get the darn thing in the mail i actually had to unpack it to take pics!! i only have pics of the jar and the crafted whimseys as they werent actually inside the jar. the jar was so packed full and i didnt have time to repack it before going to the post office so unfortunately there are no pics of the whimseys

the jar - my partner likes the japanese animals so i modgepodged thejar with one of her favorite colours (pink) and then used an applique pattern to use for the penguin

the three whimseys i made were jewelery 1. is a pair of hoop earrings with pink crystals and peals 2. is a pair of dangly pink stone and crystal earrings and 3. is a cell phone charm with stone beads and crystals and pearls

and then i tossed in a few extra handmade items - there is a roll on fragrance, a solid fragrance, and a lip balm

24  Re: Poll idea in Talk About The Swap Process by 1boy1girl1kitty2 on: September 23, 2009 04:41:52 PM
this is an awesome idea! i'm one of those ones that when i do partake in a points swap i over craft because i'm just not quite sure. but the idea of a gallery of previous swapped items and their sizes is awesome! and the suggestion of what your craft would sell for is a simple solution. post a pic in the business section and ask!

someone brought up the "some craft fast and some craft slow comment" well i fall into the fast category when it comes to sewing. last weekend i cut and pieced a quilt top in exactly an hour so does that make it a small just because i have the ability to get i completed in a quick fashion? size wise its a little shorter than a twin size (it is meant to drape over my dd's toddler bed) so according to those guidelines its a large. and then there is the cost. i paid about 21.50 for ALL (top, batting and backing) my materials so that puts it into the medium category so which is it? small medium or large

*quilts similar in size and made of the same collection of fabric are selling on etsy for an average of $125

you decide . . .

my personal opinion is large, but as i stated it fits into all the size catagories

26  Re: Lap Quilt Swap 5 - FALL in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by 1boy1girl1kitty2 on: September 17, 2009 11:10:33 AM
with all the previous rounds of this swap i've chose on block that i make for everyone, and plan to do the same for this round as well. the past blocks were representative of myself and i want this block to be as well but i'm running out of blocks to do lol. i tried this one but once i got it finished i looked at it and thought it looks a little busy.

i used 4 fabrics
the heart for my love of quilting, the bars paw cause i used to live in the mountains, the friendship star cause i've made some awesome friends threw this swap and the maple leaf because i'm canadian.

the thimble print is the one print every package has. the little patch in the bear paw is an example of the quilting quotes that are in every package as well.

i'm not sold on this block yet i may keep looking and see what else there is out there

OR . . .

this one is just a heart block (i've been digging the heart blocks lately)

30  3 labours of love! a country rag quilt, betty boop and a personal swap quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by 1boy1girl1kitty2 on: August 02, 2009 12:39:33 PM
Since money has been extremely tight around here i havnt been able to go anywhere (cant even afford to go visiting) so i looked at my ridiculously huge fabric stash and thought 'now is the perfect time to downsize' i have so far made 12 quilt tops (only 6 have been quilted as of yet) and have 3 more in the idea pile. i will post the completed quilts once i have them quilted

then i was so graciously given a flat rate box full of fabric in a swap so it replenished what i had already used and i now have lots more fabric to quilt with. so i can be busy for another month

onto the pics . . .

my uncle got married for the first time (at age 45) and his fiance gave me 3 rubbermaid tubs full of fabric she no longer had use for. i wanted to make them something special for a wedding gift (and also inexpensive for me) in the tubs were various horse themed prints so i used those and made a rag quilt
its lap size

and the back

their wedding was yesterday and i wasnt able to go so i dont know if they liked their gift or not

the second quilt was a quilt top i made years ago when i first started quilting. i made it for my baby sister when she was 12. she had it for about 3 weeks when my mom washed it and shrunk the 100% wool batting inside thus making it about 2 feet by 3 feet! so i have had it in my sewing closet for the last 7 years promising to fix it. she had almost lost hope of ever getting it back but i figured i'd get it done this month too, didnt cost me nothing and i had all the time in the world. she will be so surprised when she comes home to visit in a couple of weeks. i had to add a border around it as i cut a fair amount off trying to loosen the wool fibers from the top

and the back (its just a bit over a lap size)

and thirdly, i am expecting in december and want to cloth diaper. i no longer have any from the last baby and really didnt want the tedious job of making my own stash (i've made my own for the previous 3 babies) but musiclady makes cloth diapers so i asked if she would make me some in exchange for a quilt and she accepted my offer. she wanted a quilt for her daughters toddler bed. she had a jungle theme and wanted it to be girly. and i had all the perfect materials right in my stash

the backing is white fleece, its soft and warm

i love feedback and am always looking for suggestions on/for future projects!
thanks for looking!
