11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / sparkly brown summer dress! on: July 29, 2007 06:49:35 PM
hey guys!
so, i was bored yesterday and thought that i would make a dress to wear to my best friend's bridal shower today.  i finished it with about 10 minutes to spare!  there are a couple little touch up things that i didn't get around to, but overall i'm so happy with how it turned out!!  plus i used up some of my ridiculously huge stash!!  (always a great thing!!)

(excuse the mess in the background)

at the park:

the back- the opening is supposed to be there, i like it, i think it adds a little character:
(including green zipper- i didn't have a brown one!)

sorry about the links, but it's beyond me how to post the pictures from flickr (i got the link that explained it and got completely lost)

thanks for looking!
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / madras baby doll dress on: July 09, 2007 06:36:14 PM
hey guys!
so, i've had a little more time to sew lately, so this is my newest creation.  i actually went to jo ann's not looking for any fabric but found this material (isn't that how it normally goes??).  i thought it would make a cute sundress.  the pattern is mccalls 5377 view A.  i'm still having problems figuring out what size i should be (because everytime i use the measurements on the back of the envelope, they turn out too big), so the bodice turned out too big, even though i took it in almost 2 inches!  i can't win!  it's so frustrating working so hard on a dress and then not even being able to wear it because it's way too big!  (i know, i know, i can alter it but i want the instant satisfaction of being able to wear it after i finish up the hem!).  but i still like it!!  here are the pics.....

13  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / sesame street pillowcase dress on: June 03, 2007 05:23:39 PM
this is a "pillowcase" dress that i made for my niece for her 1st birthday.  i just used a remnant piece i found at joann's.  it's flannel unfortunately, but i think it still came out cute!  i used rostitchery's tute at her website.

then i made a small pair of shorts with the leftovers.

*edit- i just gave it to her today, but i'll get a pic of it on soon!
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / summertime comfy shorts on: June 03, 2007 04:56:00 PM
hey everyone,
i was busy this week and made these shorts, gaucho pants, and a pillowcase dress for my niece for her birthday!  whew!  i wore my shorts to my niece's first birthday today so it was the perfect time to take some pics!  the shorts are from simplicity 7016, but i used some stretchy black material for the waistband instead of elastic.  it was kinda confusing on how to work it out, since i'd never done it before, but after ripping it out once, i think it turned out ok.  without further ado.....

sorry about the links, but i still can't figure out the posting pictures thing!  everytime i try, it never works!
15  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / shirring question on: May 13, 2007 07:57:14 PM
hi all,
so, i tried to sit down and learn shirring tonight (after reading many tuts) and it's not going well.  i did everything right as far as i know- hand wind bobbin loosely, set stitch length to 4, normal thread in needle- but it's not working!  it'll sometimes come out right, but most of the time it's just like a normal, flat line with the elastic thread coming through to the top of the fabric.  i've tried switching everything-stitch width, tension, etc. but it's just not working.  has this happened to anyone??  any ideas??

16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / green, flowy, somewhat maternity looking dress on: May 05, 2007 09:26:28 PM
here's a dress i made with simplicity 3778 this past week instead of going to my community ed italian class.  the pattern was pretty easy, but i see now why the model on the cover is wearing a belt- the pattern is very loose and i'm pretty sure it's supposed to be that way.  i still like the way that it turned out, but i didn't realize before i made it that it would be that baggy.

*edit* oh yeah, just wanted to mention that i modified the pattern a  bit and didn't put a zipper in the back.  the elastic was already supposed to be there, so i figured, why spend the time and money to put in a zipper when it would be fine without it?  it worked out great!

let me know what you think!
17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / stripey summer dress on: April 25, 2007 07:36:32 PM
hey all,
i made this dress using simplicity 3882.  i saw another craftster post a dress made with this pattern and it was so cute!  so i found this fabric and gave it a try.  i made the size that i was supposed to be on the back and it turned out huge!  so i decided to add a belt instead of having to totally try to re-do it, considering there were no exposed seams on the inside.  i think it's at least wearable now.

18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / "whirl away dress" or Butterick 4790 (50's style retro dress) on: March 26, 2007 04:10:56 PM
hey everyone,
so, a couple weeks ago Hancock had a $0.99 pattern sale.  i went crazy and got 10 patterns (the limit).  but i was especially excited about this pattern because it just looked so darn cute and i'd never made a retro dress before.  being the craftster that i am, i decided to search for the pattern here and found a whole thread just about this dress!!!  (although i can't seem to find it now...)  needless to say, i had to make it! Smiley

and as my boyfriend (jokingly) said, "in the kitchen, where the woman belongs!!"

i'm not quite done yet.  i need to add buttons to the front flap but i can't decide if i want orange ones or aqua.  i'm really happy with how it came out though and would recommend it as a unique, fun dress to make (although the bias tape took for forever).
19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / purse with cool fabric! on: March 19, 2007 05:31:32 PM
this is a purse i made a couple months ago.  i really loved the fabric when i saw it and bought it without knowing what i wanted to do with it.  it's actually upholstery fabric, but i loved the print.

20  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / monster ipod case on: March 19, 2007 05:26:41 PM
i made this case for my sister for christmas.  she really liked it.  it was kind of a mixture of a tute i found on craftster and one i saw online at pixelgirl.com.
