11  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / How to measure yardage? on: March 15, 2008 08:58:51 PM
Hello. I'm just getting started on spinning and dyeing yarn. I'm wondering, when is the best time to measure how many yards there are?
Do you measure as your skeining, and if so, how?

Or do you just have a big tangled pile of yarn and try to measure on a yard stick?
This is what I was doing, but I wondered if there's a better way.

I know about niddy noddies, but they are various sizes, so not necessarily a yard.
Just wondering how others do it.

12  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Hard bottom for bags on: June 15, 2007 10:46:33 AM
I saw the other post about what to use for the bottom of a bag to make it stiff. Where do you get the plastic canvas  -- I assume it's in the fabric stores, but how do you cut it, etc.?

My real question is, how do you insert it? Just stick it between the lining and outer bag? Does it stay in place that way?

14  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / HTML allowed on here? on: June 05, 2007 11:58:11 AM
Hi everyone. I haven't posted very many times - I usually just look around. I made a long handbag tutorial on my blog and then thought to post it here. I know I can't just post a link to my blog, so I was hoping I could just cut and paste the code from my blog, which has HTML, here. Is there a way to do that, like an HTML editor that I don't see?

15  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Finished summery tote on: March 24, 2007 01:00:25 PM
I completed this summery tote bag with floral fabric on the outside and striped fabric on the inside. The fabrics are the exact same colors, just different prints, and I fell in love with it at Wal-Mart, of all places.

I made one in a different fabric before, and it was confusing as heck, but now that I've got the hang of it, it's much faster.

Kind of busy looking, I guess, but right now I'm into the matching color, different pattern combos.
16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / I was on a roll this weekend ... on: March 10, 2007 01:04:56 PM
I just sewed and sewed and sewed...
Along with my springariffic bags (a few posts below) that I did last night, I also made this pink-lined black eyelet purse:

I got ambitious today and made these two items. The tote definitely came out better than the purse. The problem with the purse is I forgot to check the handle size first, so the handles were a wee bit too small for the fabric area.

Thanks for looking!
