1  Re: Twilight Swap Rd. 5 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by avari20 on: January 25, 2009 12:50:31 AM
YAY Avari!!  My second attempt at part of my large turned out how I had imagined it also.  Gotta learn through mistakes, right? Smiley

On another note, how ridiculously crazy is it to drive 2 hours in the morning just to find a movie theater thats still showing Twilight?!  My best friend hasn't seen it yet and we're spending the morning together (we're both childless at the same time for the first time in a lot of months).  She's never heard of Twilight and will likely think I'm absolutely nuts that I'm driving her 2 hours away and then 2 hours back just to watch some movie lol.  She'd likely be content just driving the 10 minutes it takes to go see Underworld or something...

Seriously! When all is said and done and my partner has recieved, I'm going to post pics of the large that went wrong, just so everyone can enjoy the ENORMITY of my mistake! LOL.

On a Twilight-semi-obsessed note, I was in the store today and just happened to look down at the book table...and guess what I saw!

Twilight in Korean! (Check Edward out, dude...)

I recieved from Scotskipper402 but I forgot to post pictures! I was too excited!

Here's most of what I got minus a red Riding Hood shawl that matched the hat. My sister stole it! I did fight for it, Scotskipper, I really did Smiley Her powers of persuasion plus her pout are too powerful to resist.

Here's a close up of my hat and fantastic Serenity-like earrings. It hasn't gotten quite cold enough to wear the hat, but it's coming.

I've already put my needlework book to good use--I'm embroidering one of the designs on a pillow as a Christmas present. Thank you so much, Scotskipper402, you really spoiled me!

Scotskipper402 recieved and asked me to post pics of her loot!

Everything together

Fuzzy fingerless gloves (reallllllly soft)

Close up of the hat and the fabric (she likes Asian themes and this was perfect)

I'll post again with the loot I got from Scotskipper! It was a pleasure to craft with you, lady!

Ohhohohoho...prepare to be jealous, fellow fans. (warning: image obese)

Peaches, you are forever immortalized in my top ten list of favorite people ever. Please pardon the fact that I had to take pictures with my phone. My dad drove off with my camera! I will probably retake and repost later Smiley

On with the show!

There is nothing better than waking up and finding a swap package on your doorstep. That Christmas feeling keeps rushing back in a hurry, especially when said package is covered with Harry Potter references:

*Not pictured: "C/O Draco Malfoy, Big Gothic Castle, Ominous Gated Commmunity, Outer London", "Don't be late to Potions, or {name smeared here} will get you", Nargle proof tape, magic handdrawn stamps, and a "Just a typical muggle package... No magic here" denial.

I did as my letter instructed and put on music before I opened anything. Behold the swag!

Most came with little scrolls from my favorite character Draco. Some were of a..."intimate nature" (lol!) so I can't post them for your viewing pleasure. [it's mine, all mine!]

Subway napkins? No! Disney charms and wondeful postcard!

Draco postcards.

My very own, fully customizable trunk, complete with appropriate paint (and green ribbon and a Slytherin pompom *Go Team!*)

A ruffle coin purse, for those red-hot Wizard dates.

A blurry but awesome toadstool pincushion, which I totally needed.

Slytherin patch

Polyjuice potion (you can never have too much of it)

The Elder Wand!

My very own Draco-in-his-robes doll, complete with smirk action, resting against my oh-so-fabulous Slytherin pillow, which has a snake S detail.

Crochet roll!

Not pictured: jar of buttons (loving it), Nutella packets galore, and a very nifty Slytherin prefect button.

Oh yes, PeachesEveryDay is awesome. It took my a good half hour to get through all this stuff, and I giggled the entire time. My mom entertained herself by watching. She too is impressed.

Thank you so much Peaches. You went above and beyond the call, and you made my week. I've already called my sister and bragged. I plan on doing the same to my friends.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! *big hug*

*Ahem* I would also, in regards to the pop quiz question about what Merlin is wearing that hasn't been invented yet, bring this to ya'll's attention:

It's mine...all mine....!

I got my package yesterday too! I started jumping up and down in the street in excitement because that was totally the last thing I expected to see in my mailbox! My brother felt compelled to usher me inside. It was not pretty.

But my goodies are! I, uh, can't show you what they looked like all wrapped up, because I got a teeny bit excited and totally didn't take into account that my camera was at work with Dad. *ahem*

Very cute necklace and matching earrings

Action shot (again with the morning hair, what is it with the two of us?)

I am loving this broach/pin. A skull and a dog? Doomy and cuddly at the same time.

Here's one of the most well-made sewing projects I've ever seen. Man, wish I could sew like that! Let me introduce my crochet hook roll!

Everything had those neat tags pinned to them. I love how personalized the package was.

Action shot

And while I love, and I mean LOVE, everything I got, this is my absolute favorite....

A handmade Howl doll! Complete with detailed cape and smile!

Baxter wants him all for himself, but Mom is not sharing.

Zoe, it was a pleasure and a delight to get to know you and have you for my swap partner. If there was an award for awesomest swap partner, you'd be nominated in a heart beat. Thank you so much!

7  First Doily! in Crochet: Completed Projects by avari20 on: April 27, 2008 03:05:15 PM
Hi, all! So I'm not all that new to the crochet scene, but this is my first crochet post on Craftster. Let me know what you think!

I have about 8 doilies that my grandmother crocheted over fifty years ago. I've always appreciated them but only now understand just how wonderfully crafted they are. My mom used to crochet, and still had some doily books around. I picked one up and decided to give the "Sunny Morning" pattern a shot.

Here are my results!

My Sunny Morning

Now, the pattern calls for regular crochet thread and steel hooks. I wasn't that confident. I used Peaches and Cream Ecru-colored cotton yarn (2 and a smidgen of a 3rd ball). So instead of 10 1/2 inches, the doily actually turned into a table topper as it's about twice the estimated size.

Come closer, my pretty...

Closer still for some detail.

And the obligatory action shot!

I'm very proud of how it turned out, and the Ecru color reminds me of Oma's doilies, which have yellowed with age.

I'd appreciate any comments! Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the tute! I really appreciate it, and already tried it out! Here are the (slightly blurry) photos:

Again, thank you!

9  First Furniture Project (Dorm Reject Bench Transformed) in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by avari20 on: December 24, 2007 10:14:49 PM
This might actually be better suited to the "Reuse/Recycle" forum, but I found a few things that seemed to fit in this one, so....

I went to a friend's graduation and was helping her move her stuff out along with her mom (who's very Green). We glanced over in the dumpster and there was this heavy bench with the ugliest fabric you've ever seen on it, and the seam had burst. There was nothing else wrong with it as far as I could see. To make a long story short, I suddenly had this thing in my car courtesy of Friend's Mom. I covered the fabric with something we had around the house, repainted it, and now it's a great new addition to my parent's room!

Sorry for the fuzzy pictures, but I am so proud of myself that I couldn't resist posting!

Thanks for looking!
