1  Mole day in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by M-alina on: March 30, 2010 11:10:27 AM
So in my chem class in high school, we had Mole day.  It had some connection to Molarity or some such thing that I have since forgotten... In any case, we got extra credit if we made our own mole and brought it in.  Mine was a princess, but I can't quite remember her entire backstory.  She's made of black fleece, some peachy bit for her nose and paws, and the clothes are made of some cotton stuffs.  She was sewn by hand...  Enjoy!

2  Re: how to make cute hair bows? in Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions by M-alina on: December 05, 2007 05:13:51 PM
You can also take a long rectangle, with finished edges (mine were made of t-shirt parts, so they're all raw edges), then sew the two shorter ends together, making a circle (think broccoli rubber band). Tack it down in the middle (with a qiuck stitch or hot glue) and stitch a little band piece over the tack-ing.  For the ones I made over the summer, using barrette clips, I hot glued the center of the bow onto a barrette, then wrapped the center band around the bottom of the barrette as well.
The black one shows the underside of the barrette, with the cross bar piece taken off, for a better view, the pink and black has a better contrast to see the band piece, and the blue one just has a button on it, because you can put fun stuff on the band before attaching it to the bow, like the skull picture you had...

You can get barrette clips and probably other kinds as well at Joann's or Hobby Lobby, or whatever your usual craft store is... Bows are fun!!  ...yeah, that's all I got!

3  Re: Harry Potter Book Release costume help! in Halloween Costumes by M-alina on: July 20, 2007 02:46:31 PM
First off, the shirt graffic is awesome.  I definitely want one.  Secondly, since it's for the book release, personally, I would stay true to the book and go pink.  Since you do have longer hair, one idea I have would be to pull it back into a messy bun type thing.  I used to do this inverted-y bun that my friends called the peacock.  Basically, tie your hair back into the ponytail-type bun, but instead of just slipping the hair under, flip it over the top of the ponytail.  Then the tips stick up at wierd angles, and if you can get it just right, it looks like your hair is shorter.  Like this...

  (the back view)

You could also try the bigger versions of the little twisty things that were really big a while back, I think they do them for the libby lou "rockstar" thingy... where there's the little twisty guys up the back of your head, then they're bobby pinned up and the tips of your hair stick up funny, like I imagine Tonks would.  I did bigger twists and grabber clips, with a head band...kind a looks almost real with the head band...from the front at least...  Looks like this...

Then spray it the bubble gum pink!!  Hope I was helpful.  Let me know if you don't understand something!!

Edit: sorry, I just realized that those weren't exactly the best pictures.  It's hard to take a pic of the back of your own head... Oh, and my hair is curly and a little longer than shoulder length... yeah...

4  3 Bags by M (Seriously Image OBESE!!) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by M-alina on: July 18, 2007 08:27:23 AM
There's three different bags in here.  I never seem to be able to find ones that I like, so I wind up making my own.  Now, without further ado...

The whole bag, pretty true to color.  It's huge, gusset in the side/bottom.

Close up of applique.  It's my gatto.  I origionally planned on making a little purple bow for it's tail, but I never got around to it...

Close up of zipper pull.  Made of black and white ribbon and a neat plastic bead.

The inside of the bag.  Ignore all my crap.  The pockets aren't the best, and the the button holes are all stretched out now.

Next is my rendition of those quilted bags.  I wanted it to be just the pink fabric, but didn't have enough.  there's the outside fabric, batting, then the lining.

Whole bag.

Close up of the buttons.

Cell phone pocket.  Works nicely.

Close up of the pink fabric.

Next is a new bag I finished this morning.  I wanted something smaller than usual.  It was inspired by a co-workers bag.  Kind of took off from there.

Whole bag.  (Being stood up using Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix... Grin )

My first ever slit pocket.  Turned out pretty well...  It's on the inside.

Slit pocket under the flap.  (Second ever slit pocket Cheesy )

Close up of the paisley fabric.

I hope you like them, Craftsters are the majority of my Heroes!!  Feedback more than welcome!

5  What everyone needs in life... in Sublime Stitching Embroidery by M-alina on: May 14, 2007 04:09:54 PM
I made this for a friend about a week ago.  Her dad had just died, so everyone was kind of in a depressed funk... I figured it would make her feel a little bit better.  I'm still working on framing and giving it to her though... I should get on that, shouldn't I?

6  Re: OTT 12 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by M-alina on: May 09, 2007 02:02:10 PM
YAAAAAAAYY!  Mine came in the mail today, and I figured out how to post pictures last night!!  Here's the little cutie that serialdeviant made me...

From the front...

From the side...

She even fits in my palm!  I'm thinking about naming her Kye, which means something like boomerang in Australian, or Kita, which means North in Japanese...  I wanted to give it a Singaporean name, but the name book my mom has doesn't have any...

I really REALLY like her, thank you so much, serialdeviant!!  I can't wait till tomorrow, so I can take her to school and show her off!!

Edit: Can you see them now?
