4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Thanksgiving / Thanksgiving Leaf Garland Tutorial Image heavy on: November 01, 2009 01:47:18 PM

1: Click Here http://mycutestamps.com/leaves.pdf to download my Leaves Pattern PDF file.

2: Print the file, then cut out the leaves.

3: Trace Leaf shapes onto felt. I chose felt in 4 different fall colors. I used a white pencil to trace the leaves onto the dark felt colors.

4: Cut leaf shapes out of felt.

5: Using an embroidery floss, stitch the leaf veins onto each leaf.
I used a gold colored floss which I thought was a little thick, so I pulled 3 strands out of the floss to make it easier to stitch. You could save some time, and use a gold glitter glue or fabric paint to make the leaf veins instead.

6: Decide how you want to place your leaves.

7: stitch leaves to a rick rack or ribbon.

8: Hang your new Thanksgiving garland and enjoy!
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Beehive Chore Chart Tutorial & Download on: August 14, 2009 07:29:30 AM

I created this chore / activity chart to use with my little girl. I've decided to share it with everyone! You can download this 2 page PDF file by clicking this link http://www.hollybrookejones.com.busybees.pdf. Instructions are included in the file, however, I'm going to post them here as well. This file prints perfectly onto
a standard 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper.

1: Print the Busy Bees Activities chart onto card-stock.

2: Have the printed card-stock laminated or put a clear contact paper over the
images for extra protection. Feel free to skip this step if you wish.

3: Cut out beehive & bees.

4: If you wish to add any glitter or embellishments, do so now.

5: Glue some magnets to the back the beehive & one magnet to each bee.

6: Print or write some activities and/or chores onto a small piece of paper.
Here is a list of some activity ideas. Feel free to add any that would work for your childs age.

Read a book with mom. Help mom make cookies. Clean all the mirrors in the bathrooms. go tickle dad. Count how many times you can find the word the in your favorite book. Practice sight words. jump 10 times. Make pudding pops. Write a letter to Grandma. Choose a game to play with mom. Enjoy a yummy snack. Complete a worksheet Complete a (be specific) craft project. Learn to tie your shoe. Cut out your favorite pictures from some junk mail or old magazines. Make up a story about your favorite animal.

7: Fold the small paper in half (so that your child cant see what he/she is picking) and place behind each magnet.

Be sure to change out activities on a daily basis to fit your needs and to keep your child interested.

8: Set aside a time each day or week for child to complete the activities.

Here are some rules:
The child can pick any bee that he/she wants to. The child has to complete the chore or activity before moving on to the next bee.
I usually let my kids pick 6 bees a day. I usually include something fun, something educational, a chore, & a physical activity.

I hope you and your children enjoy these fun activities together.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Fairy Wings Shirt Tutorial (Cute for kids) IMAGE HEAVY on: January 21, 2009 09:07:36 PM

Step 1: Choose some fabric & tulle fabric. You won't even need 1/2 a yard of each for this project.
Step 2: Using this http://www.hollybrookejones.com/fairywingspattern.pdf pattern (PDF file download), cut out one wing.
Step 3: pin wing to 2 layers of tulle fabric, then sew a zig-zag stitch around the edge.

Step 4: Cut about 1 inch around the tulle following the shape of the wings. I found it's easier to cut the tulle wings out after its been sewn, then before. I had a hard time keeping it lined up evenly when I tried cutting the tulle fabric out before sewing.

Step 5: Pinch the wings in the center & pin.

Step 6: Align the pinched wings to the center top of a t-shirt or tank top. Hand sew the center of the wings to the shirt, along with a few stitches at the top of each side of the wings to hold them in place.

Step 7: Add a flower, heart, or embellishment to the center of the wings. If you don't like the flower Idea, you can just use a rectangle piece of fabric, as shown in the sample below.

I think it would be fun to make some bumble bee wings on a yellow & black striped shirt, or use some red & black polk-a-dot fabric to make some lady bug wings. Be creative! My kids LOVE their winged shirts. For best results, hand wash.
Step 8: Add a matching embellishment to the front, if you like.

I'm having 12 eight year old girls over in a week and a half to paint pumpkins. Does anyone one have any cute ideas? I was thinking it would be cute to paint them as black cats or a bat. Any other ideas?
