2  So very proud! Sock monkey baby gifts from a beginnah! ;D in Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller by freisss on: May 01, 2006 05:53:32 PM
My grandma was a world-class crochet queen.  My siblings and I each received one beautiful afghan when we were kids.  I did the unforgivable when I was in high school- I brought my little sister's to school for a drama project and lost it!  Years later, I am finally able to make it up to her by gifting her baby with my first serious crochet project!

Many thanks to Debbie and the designers in her book.  I never thought I could do it!

3  Cigar box kitschy kitschy koo in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by freisss on: December 31, 2005 12:04:37 PM
Sometimes I just don't know what gets into me.

The recipe card on top is for fish sticks with pineapple.  The one on the inside is for barley casserole.  Alas, the recipes are lost forever; such a sacrifice for the sake of art!

Here are some I made for my son a while back:

The photos are from Kill Bill, and the words are memorable lines from the movie.

This one was done completely in adhesive vinyl.  The black part in the center has a slot so he can put things in without opening the box.

I am overwhelmed!  You all are very kind.  I must admit that the majority of this was modification of others' work.  I can't take all of the credit myself.

Here are the stencils:

The glitter paint is Tulip Soft Brushable Fabric Paint.  I think it cost me a buck, and there is still almost half a bottle left.

I used freezer paper to make the stencils.  Here are some great links to stencil tutorials.
This one is my favorite:

Good luck.  Smiley

7  Stencilpalooza: the fruits of my labor.UPDATED with even more stencily goodness! in Stenciling: Completed Projects by freisss on: December 09, 2005 06:45:30 PM
Here are some holiday gifts I've been working on:

One tip:  If you wanna make a "blah-blah is my homeboy" t-shirt....those teeny tiny letters are a real beeeyotch to cut out, so have a good supply of replacement blades on hand.

 Grin  Yayayay!  I got MY box today, too!   Grin

PinkDino sent me an adorable pillow and THE black and white cookie (racial harmony in a cookie. . .)

And that's not all, folks!  I also got:
* a set of Festivus greeting cards (Yayayay Festivus!)
* A notepad
* A Rice Krispies journal
* A holy candle for my Shrine o' Seinfeld!

Wheee!  This was fun!  Thanks a bunch, PinkDino!  Here are a couple more pics of the things I sent:

9  Re: Back-to-School Present for my Mom, a teacher? in Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage by freisss on: August 22, 2005 09:45:42 AM
How sweet of you!  I'm a teacher too, and I use clipboards all the time.  Here is a back to school gift I made for myself.  I bought two clipboards and painted the backs with acrylic paint.  I used puffy paint to put my name on top.  Then I mod podged cute pictures on 'em, let all of that dry, and finished it off with a coat of clear polyurethane.

You might try altering a pattern in the book.  I used the tiger cub pattern to make a pug dog for my friend.  It turned out kinda cute:

btw...I got my toy eyes at Michaels.
