Ooh, I love the way these turned out!  The colours and shapes are so eye-pleasing.  (And if you're looking for other things to do with pink yarn? To me, that pink is crying out to be made into mini-brains to be eaten by zombie-gurumi.)

2  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - JUNE, 2011 in The Swap Gallery by slothmuffin on: June 24, 2011 03:40:22 PM
I am head over heels with all of these cards, the talent represented in this swap is mind-boggling. Cheesy

I got my first ATC for this swap today from Mountains and Clouds, and it's the best. thing. ever.

I photographed rather than scanned it, because it's delightfully un-flat---the hammock is attached to the card with jumprings, and the book has actual flip-through-able pages!

3  Re: Monster Ninni Swap Gallery (MAIL BY 6/13/11) in The Swap Gallery by slothmuffin on: June 15, 2011 04:53:07 PM
My ninni from Gspinn arrived today! Cheesy  I was so excited to open the envelope, I can't even tell you.

I love that my ninni is camouflaged. Not only is the fabric she's made out of gorgeous, she blends right in with the greenery!  She's like a happy ninja nature ninni.

She even came to me with bonus gorgeous fabric (...for making more ninnis, perhaps?), because Gspinn is awesome.

Sadly, her cool spots didn't photograph very well, but they're clear and shiny with rainbow flecks, they make me think of a frog's back.

My ninni for Gspinn is just getting her final embellishments---which, knowing me, will take way longer than they should as I pore through button boxes and try to avoid actual handsewing for as long as possible...
Here's a sneak peek:

Hooray for holiday weekends (and with good light, even)!  Meet my practice-monster, Most Serene and Honorable Teatime Ninni.

I gave her a little teacup-pocket (adorable teacup template from genuine mudpie here: http://genuinemudpie.ca/2011/05/27/a-quick-cup-of-tea/) on the back, which will just hold a teabag in a wrapper.

This one may become a gift for someone on Swap-Bot, or not.  Not sure yet, but I am sure that I already want to make a billion more...

Meet Sprout the Springtime Squid! Cheesy

I hope he's not mad at me for hanging him from his mantle with clothespins...

7  Septacat! in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by slothmuffin on: August 01, 2010 08:50:08 AM

(She's not an octo-cat, because she only has seven tentacles.)

I ended up making a bunch of crocheted octopuses a couple weeks ago, and I decided to make one a tentacle-cat instead as a present for someone on Swap-Bot who likes both cats and stuff with tentacles.

I definitely want to make more, but I think only have one more pair of cat safety eyes.  Tongue  The craft stores where I live never have a lot (or a good variety) of safety eyes in stock, so if any of you guys have a favourite online safety eye supplier, please link me!

8  Homemade Mallomars! in Dessert by slothmuffin on: March 02, 2010 05:34:16 PM
The cookbook this recipe was from (Gale Gand's Just a Bite---http://www.amazon.com/Gale-Gands-Just-Bite-Luscious/dp/0609608258/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267578980&sr=8-1) called these cookies "marshmallow moons," which threw me off at first, but when I realized they were Mallomars, I knew they needed to be made as a late Christmas present for a friend who loves Mallomars and mourns their absence when the hotter weather makes them impractical to truck around and they disappear from grocery stores.

They were time-consuming because there was a lot of waiting for things to cool before moving on to the next step, but worth it.  The cookies were denser and a little more interesting than the cookie layer of a commercial Mallomar (they had cinnamon in them).  Making the little circular cookies and letting them cool was the first step, and then the marshmallow got made and piped on, which was insanely messy because I didn't whip it thick enough at first.

They were already pretty cute in this state, but they'd have been really messy to eat, the marshmallow was super-sticky.  I'd never made marshmallow before, and it was delicious.  It was much fluffier and lighter than the commercial Mallomar marshmallow for the first couple days after the cookies were made, but then it started to settle and get denser.

The marshmallow had to set for a few hours, and then the cookie-mallows were dipped in melted chocolate.  They were surreally shiny for a while.  (Sorry these pictures aren't the best quality, my kitchen is a horrible place to take photos at night.)

This is what they looked like the next morning, cooled into their matte state.  I added sprinkles while the chocolate was still gooey, which might have been overkill.  It was impossible to resist! They were like tiny blank canvasses!
