1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Crabby Baltimore Sweater (with Fair Isle Chart!) on: June 13, 2012 05:58:55 AM
Hey there, ladies and gents!

Thought I'd pop by to share this sweater before putting it away for the summer...I actually finished it probably a year ago, but never got around to photographing it! It was my first big fair isle project, and I gotta say, I think I'm hooked!

detail shots:

and a photo to show the whole thing, as well as how I feel when wearing it:

Pattern: "The Life Aquatic" from Debbie Stoller's "Superstar Knitting"--I loved the shape of the sweater, and had been wanting to try out a fair isle yoke for ages, but the original had fish on it! Fish frankly kind of freak me out, so I couldn't see myself immortalizing them on a sweater, but I dug the marine theme...so i stuck some Baltimore crabs on it! Well, they're just crabs, but I hail from Baltimore, so that's what I'll be calling them.  And since drawing up the charts for them was such a fun challenge, I re-charted the entire yoke, adding some seaweedy sort of plantlife as well. And I love it so much!

Yarn: I had loads of "french vanilla" lion brand microspun lying around from a frogged project, and it fit close enough to the prescribed yarn, so I went with that! The colors are mostly done in simply soft, I think...

Here's a kind of boring photo of what it looks like flat...

Overall I'm really pleased with it, much more than I normally am with sweaters I make!
It fits and feels nice, and people always ask me about it!
Maybe that's because it's not every day you see a sweater with crabs on it....

Anyway, thanks for checking it out!
And if you haven't taken a look at Superstar Knitting, I definitely recommend it!
Lotta great patterns in there, time to pick which to knit up next!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Here's the chart I designed, feel free to use it if you'd like! I would love any crabby projects you make with it, please PM me if you've used it!  Cheesy

2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Wes Anderson swap--take 4? on: September 09, 2011 02:03:09 PM
So I probably shouldn't be doing any swaps right now with the school year starting and all...but I just can't help it!
Would anybody be interested in a Wes Anderson Swap?!? I could organize or co-organize, depending on the timeline!
I'm thinking sooner rather than later, if there's enough interest!

Here are the galleries from the previous rounds!

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / "Weasley is Our King" Badge on: July 29, 2011 04:30:35 PM
Hi there, everyone!

I just wanted to show you this soft fabric badge I made for sKooKuM in the Deathly Hallows Part II swap--I'm pretty dang proud of it, and will probably make another for myself!

It's pretty small, only a few inches wide. I stitched it on some re-purposed silvery shirting fabric using split stitch, then backed it with dark green felt and sewed a pin finding thing onto it so it's wearable!

Let me know what you think!

4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / "Home is Wherever I'm with You" Hot Air Balloon on: July 18, 2011 10:45:55 AM
Hey all!

Just thought I'd share this piece I did a while ago--I'm pretty proud of it, but I forgot to take pictures of it before giving it to my boyfriend! Anyway, I was just able to take some pictures, so I thought I'd share!

The lyrics on the hot air balloon are : "Oh Home, Let me come home! Home is wherever I'm with you!"
from this really sweet song by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. My boyfriend and I both really like it, and it seemed fitting for when he moved a few states away for school, so I drew a design and stitched it up!

I did this piece in split stitch on linen, because at the time, I didn't really know how to do any other stitches--now I do!
I wrapped the finished piece around some stretcher bars and secured them there using this great tutorial from tickertape, so Tim could hang this on the wall of his dorm. The whole thing is around 8x10 inches.

Onto some pictures (Sorry for some of the weird shadows, don't know what happened there!)

The whole thing:

I've been really getting into embroidery, I hope to keep posting new pieces.
Tell me what you think, I'd love to get some feedback!

Details of swap:
The Pushing Daisies swap is here! This swap is for everyone who loves the show, and wants to fill their lives with Pushing Daisies-themed crafts.  This will be a 4 POINT swap (see points system below). Please limit small 1 point items to only 2 of your total points--everyone should make at least one medium or large item! There is a space on the questionnaire to say that you're interested in a bigger swap but it's no guarantee that you'll be matched with someone who also wants to craft more. If you want to swap extras, please let your partner know so they can reciprocate if they'd like! No-one wants to feel as though what they sent doesn't measure up to what they received, or vice versa. This swap is open to first-time swappers, but make sure you understand all the rules and are confident that you'll be able to complete this swap! This is my first time organizing, and I'd love for it to be a clean swap, with no flakers (this goes for everyone, not just first timers!) PM me if you have any questions at all!

1. PM me and your partner when you send and when you receive. You must have a DC# (delivery confirmation number), unless you are shipping internationally.  Include the DC in your    package sent PM to me and your partner. To make things easier for me organizing, please use one of the following subject lines when PMing me:
"Pushing Daisies Swap question," "Pushing Daisies Swap package sent," or Pushing Daisies Swap package received."
2. When you receive, post photographs in the gallery.  If you know ahead of time that you won't have a camera to photograph and upload pictures of your package with, ask your partner to take pictures before he/she sends. It's generally a good idea for all swappers to take pictures of the projects they made before sending them.

3. Please post in the thread at least once a week so we know you're still here! If you plan to go out of town for a while, please let your partner and organizer know, so we dont worry about you!

Points System:

-Medium (2 points) = 2 or more hours
-Small (1 point) = 2 or less hours

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Pushing Daisies--anyone interested in a swap? on: June 07, 2011 07:06:41 AM
Are you dying for some Pushing Daisies crafts?
Have you been wishing for a bit of Chuck's wardrobe, or some pie- or bee-themed accessories?
Is anyone interested in a Pushing Daisies swap?

I saw there was a thread from a while back for a OTT Pushing Daisies swap, but it didn't look like it ever happened! Here are the galleries from the first two Pushing Daisies swaps:

R1 Gallery: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=231592.msg2524641#msg2524641
R2 Gallery: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=347517.0

I'd be happy with a swap of any size, I could even organize or co-organize as soon as my second swap finishes in a week!

So...anybody out there want in?

8  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Travelling Gnome Polaroids on: March 25, 2011 04:31:18 PM
I normally don't post my paintings on craftster, but since I made these for the Amelie swap and I'm rather proud of them,
I thought they should go up!
Each is based on a polaroid Amelie sends her father of his garden gnome after kidnapping it.
I painted these guys on little canvases (I think 4 by 5 inches?) with gouache paints, and used micron pens to add black outlines where necessary.

Hope you like!

9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Fun with Hexagons! My first granny blanket on: February 13, 2011 07:09:16 PM
Hello guys!
This is my first post on the crochet board--
I learned to crochet last summer and made a huge striped blanket,
and this is my second ever project since then!
This was a Christmas present for my wonderful parents.
It's more of a lapghan than an afghan, haha, but they both fit underneath it while snuggling up to watch movies!

If I'm counting correctly it's got 65 granny hexagons total.
I used 5 different yarns for this blanket--

Simply Soft Autumn Red
Simply Soft Sage
Pound of Love Antique White
Homespun Sierra
Homespun Edwardian
(I'm not 100% positive these are the right names--I don't have the yarn labels with me, I just looked at the colorways online and picked which ones looked closest Smiley)
On to the pictures!

Here it is, stretched out on the floor--

A close-up--

And thrown over the comfiest chair in the house--

It's quite warm and comfy, I'm thinking about making one for myself!
Hope you enjoyed looking,
let me know what you think!

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / I need help recreating this bracelet! on: December 19, 2010 04:21:32 PM
So I know this is a COMPLETE long shot, but I've fallen in love with this bracelet and I want to recreate it somehow.
(Sorry, I'd normally upload the picture but craftster picture hosting is giving me troubles)

Only problem is, I have pretty much zero experience in jewelry making.
The original is brass, but I'd be willing to make sacrifices in order to make it easier to recreate.
(But I refuse to use shrink plastic, just throwing that out there, haha!
I would maybe consider ribbon, but if any one knows a fairly easy way to use metal for this and inscribe it, please let me know!
It doesn't have to be Super simple, I just don't want to have to spend a lot of money on tools or anything.
So, is this impossible?  Thanks for any help or pointers!
