1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / HELP!! Desperate - need idea for baby gift, Dr Seuss theme, done Jul 10 on: June 24, 2010 10:49:18 AM
A friend, tho not a very close friend, is having a baby shower in July.
She is a good enough friend that I want to make her something, and she loves hand made crafty things.
She is having a boy, and is doing Dr Seuss themed nursery - primary colors, etc.

I was going to make her a quilt, but now I dont think I have time, and I know of at least two other people who are crocheting blankets (to which her response is, 'what will I need tons of blankets for?')

I can do just about anything, but I am completely uninspired.
paint onesies with Dr Seuss quotes?
paint something on canvas?
a blanket of some sort after all?
thank you cards?
knit or crochet a silly long red and white striped hat?

I dont have kids, and she is a first time mom.
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / One Small Dog on: May 30, 2010 10:46:30 AM
anybody interested in making one small thing with a dog theme?
you could specify whether you wanted something FOR your dog, or if you wanted it to have a dog theme.

Remember, 'small' means:
By Time
-Small = 2 or less hours
By Size
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks
By Price
-Small = $10 or less

Are you interested in something quick and fun and dog themed?
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / collage / postcard / ATCish swap? on: May 25, 2010 08:26:34 PM
Anybody interested in doing a collaged postcard swap?
something like an ATC but bigger, 4x6 or 5x7 ish size?
something easy, quick, satisfying... its fun to get goodies in the mail!

I'll put you in groups, so you craft 5-6 and receive 5-6?

you can collage, paint, draw, sew... anything mostly flat.

would you want to send something you like/make, or would you want to make a list of things you would want to receive?

this would be my first shot at organizing, so make suggestions... be kind. Kiss
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Eat Local! on: July 29, 2008 02:01:54 PM

"The way we eat has an enormous impact on the health of the planet. By choosing to eat lower on the food chain, and focusing on local and organic produce, we can curb global warming and air pollution, avoid toxic pesticides, support local farmers and enjoy fresh, tasty food."

What do YOU think about this?
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Small Stuffy Swap on: June 29, 2008 04:47:01 PM
Im interested in joining a stuffie swap if someone wants to organize.
I just finished a swap and am free.
But, I am new and don't think I can organize yet.

Maybe if a group of people aren't interested, someone would be interested in a private swap?
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Should I button, zip, velcro the dog sweater closed? ...... on: May 25, 2008 08:40:07 PM
To those of you who have made dog clothes: what is the best closing device?
Button? Velcro? Ties? Zipper? No closure, slip over the ol' doggie head?

I have a very tolerant, 15 lb chi mix, who needs a sweater when we walk late on chilly nights. If she wanted out of the sweater, I would be right there to help her out of it. I wouldn't leave the sweater on her unattended. Just for late night walking. Also, the sweater has to only come down the body part way, to allow for pee-clearance. She has long legs and strong shoulders, and a somewhat deep chest. Its just really hard to convince her to come out with me, walk around and pee on things if shes shivering! She has very short, fine fur.

(Self-conscious disclaimer: Im not one for dressing dogs up, but what kind of dog mom would I be if I didnt try to keep her comfy?)
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Gerbil 'ant farm' structure? on: May 25, 2008 07:37:01 PM
I am thinking of an 'ant-farm' structure wide and tall, but not very deep. Six or eight inches maybe. I could have a pro make a metal frame, and fit it with clear Plexiglass and a sturdy lid with a lock, 'cause my kitties are smart so the hamster could be safe, but seen. I could put in a wheel, lots of levels, a box in one or two places for darkness and privacy. I was thinking the plexi could slide out of the metal frame for easy cleaning.

General comments?
8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / decorator fabric sample books, 12 or 15 on: February 12, 2007 05:42:32 PM
you know - those books, rope handle on top, edges of fabric pages backed with cardstock
range in size from 6x8 to 10x12 (approx)
clean, were sitting by the dumpster not in it
lots of color ways and textures
i can sew, crochet, knit, draw, journal, too many techniques to think of a good thoughtful crafty idea.
some of the fabric samples were marked as being 50-60 $ per yard ... silk, fine, really pretty

lamp shade?
altered books?
art journal?

help me think of something brilliant to do with this stuff that was being thrown out.
