That is adorable! Great job!

I love the colors and print. They fit really nicely together.

If it makes you feel any better, I work at s teel plant (in the offices- not the plant) and I've gotten to the point where I generally wear whatever I want. They aren't going to forget you are a girl because guys are simply like that, and they will probably kid you for a while anyway, so I would wear whatever you feel like wearing (so long as it is work-appropriate, o'course) and they will eventually get over it. Smiley

We aren't living there yet, either, but we flying out next week to look at apartments and stuff as well. Do you have any preferences (pets, hardwood floors, etc)? And how much would you like to spend (and how far away would you want to be)? A lot of it depends on those things. I can take a look around while we are in town and let you know if I find anything. Portland is kind of hit-and-miss, from what I have known, but many neighborhoods in SE are wonderful. Just PM me if you need me to look around for ya!

I just received Yesa's swap items and WOW!!! She did an amazing job. I love everything she made for me. What I received:

An anchor embroidered inflatable neck pillow
a cute embroidered carrier for my art/crochet supplies (complete with a set of art pencils and accessories- woohoo!)
Assorted candy from Finland (which was a plus, considering black licorice is my favorite thing in the world)
A really cool fashion and art magazine from Finland
a beautiful bookmark she made
and the nicest letter ever!

Check 'em out! Thank you so much, Yesa, for making my first swap such an awesome experience! You are so amazingly talented- and your handiwork is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to use the neck pillow on those long flights across the US in May!  Smiley

Now for the close-ups:

I'm so glad you liked everything! I was so nervous!
It looks like everything fit perfectly, too! Phew!

We are all about Riyadh's Lebanese Restaurant off SE Hawthorne. There is nothing better than fatayer, a heaping bowl of lentil soup, and a nice cold Widmer. Thats seriously my favorite place in the world, I think (and not just because Im Lebanese).
Portland is cool because there are several small, independent restaurants and it can be like a treasure hunt to find them. We usually frequent the small, more ethnic places because
the food is so good and fairly inexpensive. There are several little greek and mediterranean places near the big Powell's Books downtown, including a very cute open-air cafe that we always get breakfast at when were in town (can't think of what street at the moment, but it is straight back towards the Chinese Garden when you first get off the the Old Town/Chinatown stop on the MAX). If you are looking for a good panini and dessert, I would suggest Mio Gelato. They have several locations around town and have the best gelato I have ever had. Alexis on west burnside is also a good place for greek food. Uhh.those were pretty much our romantic picks because we are poor. Smiley
There are tons (and I mean TONS) of good restaurants in Stumptown. We usually just happen to see one while in transit and decide to stop and try it out but there are several sites online. I just typed in restaurant Portland, OR and a bunch came up. Hope that helps!

Nice! I will check it out fo' sure!

Yea, that place is a little pricey. I love getting australian licorice there, though.

Yea, I am all about Greenlife. Did you know there is one in Asheville, NC, too? I haven't been to it but I am thinking about going there next time I'm out that way. I don't know if it is set up the same way. My husband and I had many fine dates at the one in Chattanooga. Nothing beats sitting outside and eating soup with couscous. Nothing. Smiley

7  UNITED STATES / Tennessee / Re: Stitch and Bitch / Craftsters in Knoxville? on: February 07, 2008 09:25:43 AM
Thanks, dear! I will keep you posted.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have only made it to a few First Fridays and I live right in the middle of all the hooplah. I just usually have so much going on that I forget until the last minute. I have yet to go to Maker's Monday because I have either had to work late, been out of town, sick, tired, etc. I'm beginning to think I'm cursed.

Knoxville is a pretty cool city- it has its perks. As a child, Old City was my favorite place in the world anytime we would come into town. Then I moved to Asheville and Portland, Ore. for a  while so now I don't know which is my favorite now that I'm living in Knoxville. I think Knoxville has a lot of potential but getting the entire artistic and crafty community together is very difficult it seems so I keep hoping that more people that come into town will bring about some change.

If you need any help around town or anything, just let me know. We have been here about 9 months now, but like I said, I used to come here a lot as a kid so I know my way around fairly well. My husband and I are slowly finding out all the neat things about knoxville so we've found some pretty cool places in our excursions. Smiley Sadly, the coolest things about knoxville that I saw as a kid are long gone (especially the sweet mod, crafty shops that dotted Old City and Kingston Pike back in the early 90's) but there are some pretty cool places popping up since we moved here so that gives me hope.

Oh! I know! I just meant there is never a lot going on (or if there is, something usually comes up meaning I am unable to make it there). Sad I want to join groups up here but half the time I am busy with work/out of town or just don't have enough together to warrant joining a group. I am superenvious of everyone, though. Smiley Someday....

Greenlife is wonderful. We have a Fresh Market here which is okay and a few other places that I haven't been to yet so I'm hoping I find something similar.
I love that little health food store next to Belk in Athens although it's nowhere near as awesome as Greenlife or Whole Foods(the love of my life). There's also a pretty sweet place in Cleveland on Keith Street that I used to go to when I lived there but I can't think of the name. I just remember it was near Starbucks downtown. I have never been to a Trader Joe's- I'm missing out, huh?
