21  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Broadripple Socks, Finally done! on: July 22, 2007 09:38:41 AM
They took me 3 weeks, and lots of sneaking around, but I've finally finished Knitty's Broadripple Socks

I did them for mine and my SO's anniversary, and as we live together I had to knit at lunchtimes  at work, on the train, any place he wasn't basically!

Thankfully one of my best friends has the same sized feet as my SO so I had a model to test them on!

And I only had to frog a couple of times.... well, quite a few

I used Regia's Atlanic, my first pair of socks with 'real' sock yarn  Grin
22  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Recycled plastic bags bag on: July 16, 2007 12:29:13 PM
Waitrose's finest plastic carrier bags, made into strips and then wool, then knitted (ouch @ my fingers!)

But I'm quite pleased with the results, and it was much admired at my niece's christening  Grin

a very fuzzy picture to show the size!

23  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Teenagers, I need your help! on: June 29, 2007 05:26:32 AM
I'm starting my xmas knitting, but I've become a little stuck with one of my brothers...

I know he wants socks, desperately wants socks, he practically dropped to his knees and begged when he saw a pair I'd made for DH.   He wants "cool" "awesomes" and "rocking" socks... but I suspect that things I think fit these criteria won't be the same as things HE thinks do!

So, I need your help (he's 15 by the way), cause I just keep coming back to pirates http://katydidknits.digital-arcana.com/documents/JackSparrowSocks.pdf, or retro geek stuff http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTbmp.html , and I'm not entirely convinced that they'll hit the right spots...

He's into rock/indie music, a bit of a gaming geek and loves comic books (which is something we share, so I'm leaning towards something comic related, but can't find anything!)

24  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Decoupage Comic Storage on: April 10, 2007 03:58:51 PM
The comics were starting to take over the house, so there was no other option but to give them their own storage, but the storage man only had bland white boxes...

And I had a growing pile of "these were either in grab bags or we forgot that they had already been bought" comics...

Ta da!

25  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sheldon Turtle (finally!) on: April 09, 2007 03:47:47 PM
Finally got around to posting poor Sheldon to my mum, she'd kindly agreed to (safely) sew on his legs for me so I wouldn't choke my month old niece (the recipient)!

I'd decided to go with bright pink, mainly because my sister (her mum) isn't really a girlie pink kinda girl (and I used the excuse that babies see brighter colours better!).  Though it helped that it was random wool in my stash that I'd recycled from a lovely jumper from the local charity shop

26  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Socks! on: March 12, 2007 03:46:20 PM
I was desperate to make socks as soon as I picked up knitting again (I'm blaming my baby niece, she just begs to be knitted for!)

I started with a pair for my SO, seeing as he's always moaning about how cold his feet are...

And then I was hooked... They knit so quickly!  Though I think it helped that the wool was self patterning, and being DK it was lovely and thick, so I knew it'd produce warm socks

27  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitted book protector/cover on: March 07, 2007 03:35:52 PM
I'm such a geek...

My SO keeps ruining any paperback books he takes to work with him, so he asked me to make him something to protect his books (specifically his lovely shiny signed Neil Gaimen book)

I, being a librarian/bookshop manager, relished the idea of making a knitted book, it seemed somehow just so fitting... As 2 friends have already said "it's the most 'Jen' that anything could be..."

- Inside the front cover

- Inside the back cover, it's adjustable, so he can use it for different books...

I'm stupidly proud of it, more so because he loves it and keeps showing it of to friends (in the pub, at work, random strangers on the train...)
