1  Re: Crafted Cushion Cover Swap Gallery (SO Mar12) in The Swap Gallery by Beeclef on: March 19, 2012 11:44:56 PM
I received from fiddlegirl8 today, a whole day earlier than she anticipated! My jaw just about hit the ground when I opened the package. I was really blown away by her work. Not just the choice of fabrics or subject matter, but the QUALITY. Her enclosed note (with a map of her home state, Kansas! How cool!!) said her favorite craft was quilting, and I can *definitely* tell. I know the crafting community is pretty supportive and positive, but I don't GUSH without genuinely meaning it. And this? Gush-worthy. Seriously. See for yourselves.

How adorable is this pillow?! She told me the block is called "Dutchman's puzzle". DAMN she's a great quilter!

Another view so you can get a better look at the fabric she chose. So me!

Not to freak her out or anything, but one of the things I noticed right away was how perfect her stitching on the binded-edge envelope flap. I've never been able to get my binding that perfectly stitched. Damn, fiddlegirl8, you are GOOD!!

Not just husky approved, DOUBLE husky approved! That's when you know it's truly amazing.

Both HSG and fiddlegirl8 have exploded my brain and made this officially the most awesome swap ever. I only hope they'll enjoy the pillow covers I sent them half as much as I love theirs! Thank you, you guys. Really. This has been the worst couple of years ever, and having beautiful hand-made pillows I will look at every day make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you more than you will ever know. Smiley

2  Re: Crafted Cushion Cover Swap Gallery (SO Mar12) in The Swap Gallery by Beeclef on: March 14, 2012 06:32:37 PM
I received today from HSG, and I'm beyond over-the-moon! Definitely the best swap item I've ever gotten. Hands-down. She ran with my blue/red theme, picked up on my love of vintage, and she said "also wanted it to be somewhat sophisticated, because you seem to be that also". BWAHAHAHAH!! I had to laugh at that one, because sophisticated is about the last word I would use to describe myself. But the result speaks for itself, because this pillow is AWESOME! The buttons she used belonged to her grandmother, so this is definitely VERY cherished. Really, HSG, that meant a lot to me. Thank you.

The back of the pillow, with the wonderful vintage buttons! Cheesy

One of my favorite details...the red bias tape on the edge of the closure!! LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE!!

Yup. This will be a permanent fixture on my bed.

Husky tested, husky approved.

Thank you SO SO MUCH HSG, I truly love it to bits. Cheesy

Edited to add: I also wanted to mention the edge of the button hole panel. HSG, I absolutely love how you used the minty/aqua green in the lining, and the way it came up to the buttonhole edge makes it look like piping. Super fancy and nice. Well done!! I'm truly honored to own this pillow. Smiley

Here's one of the pillows I've made - still one of my favorites!

4  Halloween Quilt! in Quilting: Completed Projects by Beeclef on: October 26, 2011 12:18:22 PM
I'm still a beginning quilter, this is my third quilt. Sorry I haven't posted the others yet! I'm so in love with this halloween quilt, even if it was pretty simple and quick. I added rid rac to the inside border of each middle square, and quilted each square with a free-motion spiderweb. Otherwise, I kept the quilting pretty simple since I backed it with minky and wanted to retain the soft squishiness. Backing it with minky wasn't as scary and difficult as I thought. I used June Taylor basting spray (they should call it "holy crap this stuff is sticky!!") and it all held together perfectly.

5  Symetrie hat of happiness in Knitting: Completed Projects by Beeclef on: September 13, 2011 11:21:27 AM
I finished my Symetrie hat (pattern by Woolly Wormhead)! The yarn is Knitpicks Chroma fingering weight in Lollipop. Yummy!

Why, Mom? Why would you do this to me?

Yeah, that's right. Laugh it up. I know where you sleep.

6  Non-hideous knitting pillow in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Beeclef on: September 03, 2011 02:17:44 PM
I got tired of fighting with pillows to properly support me while knitting/embroidering in bed, and finally had enough. I deal with chronic neck pain (and headaches), and needed some proper support. I didn't want to go out and buy a back rest pillow (they're ugly, hard to store...oh, who am I kidding? I was just lazy and didn't want to leave the house!) so I drafted up a pattern and went for it! What do you guys think? Should I write up a tutorial?

7  Glow in the dark firefly tree in Needlework: Completed Projects by Beeclef on: August 23, 2011 12:10:36 AM
My sister is CRAZY for glow in the dark anything. When I saw that Sublime Stitching had a pack of glow in the dark floss, I HAD to get it. About two hours later, this is what I came up with. What do you think?

I know it doesn't look like the tidiest work in the world, but that floss is a bit tricky to work with. It was really fun though! Practice makes better. Smiley

8  Custom sheet set *with link to pillowcase tutorial* in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Beeclef on: July 05, 2011 11:30:16 AM
Remember these pillowcases I made recently with the tutorial? http://www.bclef.com/2011/06/fastest-easiest-pillowcase-ever.html

Well, I decided I needed sheets to match.  Basically, I just took a white topsheet from Ikea (the high thread count one...I have my standards. Wink ) and applied the same approach as the pillowcases to hide the seam and raw edges. I swear, at this rate I'm going to run out of vintage ribbon, and then I'll be really sad! But I love these sheets, they make me very happy. I'll be posting the tutorial on my blog in the next day or two in case you want to make some yourself! The best part is, by keeping the fitted sheet plain white, I can just buy white topsheets and have lots of different styles and colors to change out! YAY!

What do you think?

9  Fastest, easiest, coolest pillowcase ever *with link to free tutorial* in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Beeclef on: June 25, 2011 10:25:44 PM
I've been seeing a bunch of pillowcases popping up on crafting blogs lately, and it totally inspired me to make my own. If you like it, I wrote up a tutorial on my blog! I love being able to use the vintage ribbon from garage sales I've found. Cheesy  The best part is, there's no exposed seams, and each pillowcase only took about 20 minutes! You can checK it out here: http://www.bclef.com/2011/06/fastest-easiest-pillowcase-ever.html

What do you think? I think it's going to brighten up my day, getting to sleep with these. Smiley

10  The garage sailor pouch *with link to tutorial* in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Beeclef on: June 16, 2011 03:48:16 PM
I wanted to design a pouch for hitting the garage sales without hauling a purse with me. Then I thought how funny it would be to have a hidden pocket for those times you don't want a seller to know you actually CAN afford to pay $2 instead of the $1 that you're offering. Wink so here's what I came up with! Like it? I wrote up a tutorial on how to make your own on my blog.
