1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Pirate Swap- Gallery! on: February 14, 2006 10:05:56 PM
As promised here is the super swag I recieved from Lstarr!  There is the infamous skull illusion scarf, that I'd been eyeing up but lack the knitting skills to make....plus!  It's skull and crossbones!  The pirate code of conduct which will now be strictly inforced at my house, a pirate ship card, and lets not forget a wonderful doubloon pouch filled with chocolate loonies!  Hmmm it's the perfect size for my doggie as a backpack!  Thank-you again Lisa for the great stuff!  That scarf must have kept you up nights!

I'm so glad you like your booty! I thought the scarf is pirate enough to be BAD but not enough to be noticed by the Navy. I'll be honest though, I had some help writing the Pirate Code from my boyfriend who's in the Navy.

I haven't gotten my package yet but I expect it any day. The mail is extra slow here. I can't wait to see what I got. Eveyone's stuff looks awesome!
2  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Pirate Swap (Signups Dec 28, 05- Jan 3, 06) on: December 29, 2005 01:35:19 PM

3  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Re: Tie Dye doesn't have to be tacky... on: October 16, 2005 05:37:18 PM
Thanks everyone! I think mixing dyes is the hardest part of tie dye. And you have to be the first to dip in the bucket or your colours come out faded!

The picture was actually taken in Kingston ON at the royal military college. I had taken my winter jacket off just for the picture. We laughed at the thought of being in California because it was chilly that weekend!  Cheesy

I thought I would share my tie-dying experience. I think it turned out really neat.
I dipped the shirt in parts at a time so the top of the shoulders is blue, the middle is green and the bottom corner is yellow underneath red. The trick is to tie your elastics really tight so the areas underneath are really white. The white circles remind me of stars!

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Pillow Swap Pics! on: November 23, 2004 01:16:59 PM
I got my awesome pillow from Sugar and Candy yesterday and I love it! It's a perfect addition to my dorm, my roommate and I both love it! Hopefully Sugar and Candy can post pictures so everyone can see the awesomeness of my new pillow! My grainy webcam just won't do it justice.
Thanks Sugar and Candy!!
6  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Fireworks Scarf on: November 09, 2004 05:08:37 PM
I'm going to make the Coney Island Fireworks scarf but I'm wondering if anyone has knit it without the extra cotton? I bought the eyelash yarn (FUR FX from Estelle Designs) before I got the book and I'm not sure if I need it. The sample at the store was knit without the cotton but I'm not an experienced knitter so maybe the cotton makes it easier? If I do need it, are there any recommendations for the yarn?
Thanks guys!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Where to start? on: October 14, 2004 10:48:04 AM
What would be a good knitting book for someone who knows the basic knit/purl but wants to learn some new fancy stitches and maybe make some cool things? I have heard really great things about Stitch and Bitch but does it have some instructions on different stitches for beginners? Thanks!
8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Re: DIY Cloth Pads Tutorial on: October 04, 2004 02:29:47 PM
kategirl: I have the same problem with the plastic from disposable pads. Once you try cloth pads once, you won't want to wear disposables ever again!

Rosemary: I know what you mean about others thinking cloth pads are weird. I live in a dorm with a co-ed bathroom. The guys might think its weird but they leave the toilet seat up all the time so we're even!

I've tried the velcro idea (I put the velcro where snaps would go) and it scratched me like crazy! I haven't tried velcoring right to my panties (I get cheap underwear anyway) but I would think you'd need to put the soft side on the panties for when you wear them without the pad.
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Campus Crafting on: September 30, 2004 02:21:06 PM
I'm a member of a social justice group on campus and we are thinking of starting up a crafty kind of group. I was thinking that we could have a space for students or others who want to do some crafts and have supplies ex. sewing machine, knitting needles (what else?). Besides offering classes, we could have groups that get to together to make things for good causes (cloth pads are big, scarves for kids etc) and it would be a place to meet with other people and discuss issues. It might fit into an anti-sweatshop groove by encouraging alternative clothing. Has anyone ever been to such a thing? Any ideas? Start up $$ would also be an issue. Fundraising ideas?
Thanks guys!

What kind of stencil would it burn? Do you have to buy special stencil plastic?
