1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / The EYES have it ! on: December 28, 2004 05:08:55 AM
I am gearing up for some monster-making and have been previewing various sites for ideas.  Seems to me that a key "personality trait" for any soft sculpture figure are the EYES.

I notice a variety of eye types, including crafttbear eyes, cat eyes, embroidered eyes, wiggle eyes, felt creations and more.  I've used all of the above, plus some other wacky, fun things for scarecrow-making (a fall crafty pastime). I also have a great Jim Henson crafting/puppet-making book and I love the bulging ping-pong eyeballs!  The book is a great place for creative inspiration for monster making

My kids are big into Anime & Manga style cartoons.  I'd like to replicate some of that effect...ideas?

What  ideas do you have for making fun & expressive eyes?  How about fun foam eye creations?  Patterns?  Places to look at eyes?

Post your favorite EYES here so we can check them out!

2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Gazillions of Cupcake Liners! on: October 16, 2004 09:42:43 PM
I need some good ideas for projects to do with Xmas cupcake liners.  We have thousands donated to school.  They all have Xmas icons (some halloween).  Looking for easy holiday projects (kids ages 5-11), but interesting and/or innovative.  Want to create sample ideas for teachers.

String them into garland?, Mini Xmas Trees, Cards?, bows for presents?,  put something inside and seal the edges?  Seal in wax paper & use for wrapping paper, add google eyes and turn them into a Christmas creature?

Preferred materials would be paper, glue (maybe hot for the older kids), supplies found at school...but am open to  anything interesting.  Maybe a combination of fabric & liners (ruffles?).  We can do some prep work if necessary.

P.S.  We are using them for cupcakes, too :) Huh
